Rowan started to follow, but a sharp pain shot through his leg, making him wince. He watched her walk away, her back straight and resolute. He licked his teeth, then sucked in another breath.

Elissa froze, looking back with suspicion. She saw him grimacing, leaning heavily on the desk as if he couldn’t move. For a moment, she wasn’t sure what to believe. A Break was unlikely, but in her anger she had used all her strength. It couldn’t have been a light kick, though she was surprised his sturdy frame was so fragile.

Elissa pursed her lips, walked back, and crouched down, rolling up his pant leg to inspect the damage. What she saw surprised her in just a few moments, the area had become incredibly red, swollen, and bruised. She started to wonder if she really was that strong.
She gently probed the area around the swelling. “It’s not broken, but it is pretty
bad. You need to ice it first, then apply some ointment for a few days p>
