The entire living room fell pin-drop silent.
The Wilkinsons saw in each other’s eyes the overwhelming relief and joy of finally recovering what was lost.
And, heartache.
Even though they suspected Elissa was highly likely to be Vera, they had still feared that one-in-ten-thousand chance.
What if they were wrong again?
Thank God they weren’t.
All their hopes over the years had finally been realized at this moment.
Their Vera wasn’t just alive; she was so well-behaved, generous, independent, and outstanding.
But the heartache was just as intense as their joy.
Suzanne couldn’t help but cry.
Rex, on the other hand, sprang up. “I’m going to find Elissa right now!”
How could he possibly sit still?
“Sit your ass down.” Laurel took a deep breath, suppressing the frantic joy in her chest. “Tonight, we clean up the two messes in this house first, and then we properly welcome her home.”
Two messes-
Everyone knew she meant Marcia and Maya.
Jesse agreed with Laurel and looked at Rex. “Instead of rushing over to find her, you’d be better off trying to figure out how to get your hands on the antidote.”
“Only when the poisoning of Jacqueline is handled will Elissa have the energy to deal with anything else.”
“Otherwise, rushing over there now will just waste her time.”
That made sense.
Rex couldn’t find a single word of rebuttal.
Elissa really didn’t have the extra time or energy to care about anything else.
Yes, they were her family.
But Aaron and Jacqueline were the ones who had actually accompanied and cared for her all these years.
They couldn’t just inexplicably charge to her door to claim her based on blood ties and force her to be happy when she was at her most distraught.
Rex glanced upstairs and asked a nearby staff member, “Has Maya made any moves?”
“No.” The staff member shook their head.
Jesse understood perfectly. “What moves could she make? She’s just waiting…”
Before he could finish, an extended black H9 slowly pulled into the courtyard.
Laurel curled her lips coldly. “Speak of the devil.”
As the head of the Wilkinson Group, Tristan would naturally come to Vistapeak City for the charity gala tonight.
He was just a bit early.
However, no one in the room was surprised.
The staff at Zephyr Manor had mostly come from the old estate, so it wasn’t strange that someone would tip Tristan off.
“Dad.”
As Tristan walked in, Laurel and Jesse called out simultaneously.
“Mm.” Tristan nodded slightly before looking at Suzanne. Seeing the tear tracks under her eyes, is
expression tightened, and he walked over quickly. “It’s so early, what are you crying for?”
Suzanne naturally guessed why he was here so early.
Whether at home or outside, Tristan was indeed a good husband, meticulous in
every way. The only thing they couldn’t agree on was Maya.
In the first two years after Vera went missing, they argued constantly.
It wasn’t until Suzanne, desperate to find her daughter, jumped off a building that
Tristan finally yielded and stopped fighting with her openly.
But his inner protection of Maya had never diminished.
Originally, Suzanne didn’t care about this anymore, but now that Vera was found, she had to ensure the Wilkinson household was thoroughly cleansed.
Suzanne stated directly, “Vera has been found.”
Tristan was stunned, then laughed. “Wasn’t Vera found a while ago?”
“Marcia’s DNA report was faked.” Laurel chimed in at the perfect moment. “The real Vera isn’t her.”
Tristan froze. “Then who is?”
Rex wasn’t in the mood to beat around the bush and asked bluntly, “Shouldn’t you first care about why Marcia’s result was faked?”
Neither his tone nor his phrasing held a shred of respect.
Fortunately, Tristan loved his wife dearly, and even though he clearly came to Vistapeak City for another matter, he was willing to humor his youngest son’s question. “Why?”
“Because of that precious daughter of yours.” Rex gave no quarter. “She found Marcia to impersonate Vera. Who else in our family could pull a stunt like that?”
He just wanted to resolve these matters swiftly so the house would be completely clean to welcome Vera back.
Unexpectedly, Tristan frowned fiercely upon hearing this. “You bastard! Who taught you to pin baseless accusations on people? Besides, she is your sister!”
“Dad.” Laurel stepped forward,
stopping Rex from firing back. “You won’t let Rex make baseless accusations against Maya, but why do you reprimand Rex without even asking any questions?”
With that, she pulled out a voice recorder. Listen to this, and you’l know whether someone is making baseless accusations against her or if you… are a terrible judge of character.”
