After finishing his sentence, he chatted with her briefly about what he learned from their mentor before getting up to leave.
Since there were no extra patients, Elissa didn’t stay at the clinic too long. After finishing her lunch, she drove to Zephyr Manor.
As she walked into the courtyard, she saw Laurel Wilkinson striding out of the main door.
Elissa’s scheduled treatment days for Suzanne Jensen were generally fixed, so Laurel wasn’t too surprised to see her.
However, a noticeable shift appeared on Laurel’s face. A gentle smile replaced her usual coldness, looking at Elissa as if she were her own younger sister. “You’re here, Elissa. Why so early today?”
“Yeah!”
Elissa had initially been worried about running into Marcia Carson, so seeing Laurel put her at ease. She explained softly, “My patient load is going down starting today, so I’ll probably be arriving earlier from now on.”
Hearing her sweet, gentle voice, the frustration Laurel felt over her family issues inexplicably smoothed out. “Alright, then you should come over for lunch from now
on.”
“That’s not necessary…”
Elissa still wanted to minimize her chances of bumping into Marcia. “I’ll just come over after I eat.”
“Okay.”
Laurel knew what she was worried about and didn’t push the matter.
The situation with Marcia would be completely dealt with by the Wilkinson family within the next few days.
By then, it wouldn’t be too late to invite her for meals.
Laurel pointed to the black sedan that was already idling nearby. “I need to head back to Cresthaven to handle something. If you need anything, just look for Jesse or Rex.”
For some reason, she couldn’t help but worry about this girl.
Even though, with Rowan protecting her, nothing bad could possibly happen. “Okay.”
Elissa nodded, then instinctively added, “Laurel, tell your driver to take it easy. Safety first.”
She didn’t know Laurel’s exact professional rank, but she could guess it was likely the highest attainable for someone her age.
Combined with the prominence of the Wilkinson family, there were bound to be plenty of people keeping an eye on Laurel from the shadows.
Laurel was someone who rarely initiated physical contact, but inexplicably, she reached out and ruffled Elissa’s hair. “Don’t worry.”
When she pulled her hand back, she herself was slightly surprised.
But the lingering sensation on her fingertips reminded her that she had actually done it.
Elissa didn’t think much of it. She didn’t mind it; in fact, she thought this side of Laurel was very gentle.
Once Laurel got into the car, her thoughts returned to the business she had to handle in Cresthaven, and her expression grew coland detached once again.
She didn’t want either Marcia or Maya in the Wilkinson family anymore.
However, she needed to give her father a reasonable explanation.

To make time for this trip back to Cresthaven, Laurel had been working back-to-back for the past two days.
Now rushing back, she would have to handle her business and return overnight, leaving zero time for a nap before her meetings at work.

to outsiders—young, accomplished, and utterly glamorous.
But only those close to her knew how much weight she carried on her shoulders.
Laurel gave a slight nod, glancing at her watch. “What time is the appointment with Lawrence Quinn at city hall?”
Serena answered quickly, “Three o’clock.”
This was the time Serena and Helena had finalized after Lawrence left Wilkinson Group the previous afternoon.
It had always been this way. Lawrence and Laurel would agree on major matters, and their assistants would hash out the details behind the scenes.
Laurel’s gaze drifted to the scenery blurring past the window, a trace of
