Just as he was halfway through his sentence, a sudden commotion erupted outside the door.

Immediately after, there was an urgent knock on the door.
Maya’s heart suddenly leaped into her throat. She instinctively leaned closer to Tristan.
The next second, the private room’s door was pushed open.
It was Rex.
Tristan looked over, seeing his usual reckless demeanor, and furrowed his brows deeply. “What are you doing rushing in here like that? Don’t you know we have an important guest?”
“Which important guest?”
Rex played along, glancing inside. When he saw Paige, the disgust and hostility in his expression were impossible to hide. “What kind of VIP is this?”
The moment he thought about how his sister had been abused by this woman for so many years, a reckless urge to burn everything to the ground surged back into his heart.
Jesse grabbed his arm and looked at Tristan. “Dad, the police are here.”
“The police?”
Tristan and Paige were both caught off guard.
Paige didn’t even have time to take offense at Rex’s harsh words.
What kind of occasion was this today?
No matter how massive the issue, the police shouldn’t have shown up unannounced.
Doing so was a direct slap in the face to the Wilkinsons, showing a blatant disregard for Old Mr. Wilkinson.
Maya’s hands, hidden behind her back, began to tremble.
When she looked up and met Rex’s loathing yet amused gaze, her heart plummeted into an endless abyss.
Before she could react, the officers strode in. The lead officer looked at Tristan first and apologized, “Mr. Wilkinson, I’m sorry. This is a matter of life and death, and we had no other choice.”
Tristan frowned. “Does this involve one of our guests?”
“It involves…”
The officer hesitated briefly before looking past him. “Ms. Maya.”
The door to the private room was wide open. The other guests present heard this, and their expressions instantly shifted.
Someone murmured, “What does that mean? Did the Wilkinson family’s third daughter… commit murder?”

Another person lowered their voice. “Wasn’t Matriarch Paige here to discuss a marriage between her and Rowan? If she really killed someone,

innocently, he turned back to the police and said sternly, “Impossible. Have you made a mistake

front of all these people?”
The attendees today were all elites from Vistapeak City and Cresthaven, including members of the Murphy family.

For the police to show up unannounced was a failure on her part.
Unexpectedly, just as he finished speaking, Laurel walked over from a distance, wearing a composed smile.
