After coming downstairs, Elissa and Rowan had just finished breakfast when they received a call from the research institute. The component analysis report was
ready.
Elissa quickly glanced at the report in her email. Her slightly relaxed expression darkened, and she rushed straight to the hospital with Rowan.
Once in the car, Rowan asked, “Is it complicated?”
“Yeah,” Elissa nodded slightly. “Just like my mentor said yesterday.”
With this poison, the slightest misstep with the antidote would only cause the other un-triggered toxins to spread rapidly.
Upon arriving at the hospital, the two walked to the door of the room. Just as they were about to enter, Rowan paused and said, “You go in first. I need to return a work call.”
“Okay.” Elissa didn’t think much of it and walked right in.
Rowan walked to the end of the corridor, pulled out his phone, and his expression turned frigid. “Still no movement from Frank?”
“No,” lan replied. “For the past two days, he’s just been commuting between Atwater Group and Greenwood Manor.”
Pausing briefly, lan remembered something else. “He went back to the old estate once, but he didn’t look too good when he left.”
Rowan’s brows knitted tightly. “Where is he now?”
lan answered promptly, “Atwater Group.”
“Got it,” Rowan replied, then turned and walked toward the hospital room.
Upon hearing the component analysis was out, Cliff had also rushed to the hospital immediately.
“For a compound poison this complex, with varying dosages that interact with each other, it’ll take at least a week to formulate an antidote, right?”
He wasn’t wrong.
This was exactly why Elissa and Aaron hadn’t looked relieved since seeing the report.
Even without sleep or rest, it would take a minimum of a week.
Jacqueline likely couldn’t wait that long.
Elissa sat to the side, her fingers anxiously clenching and unclenching. She suggested, “Aaron, if you use acupuncture to delay the poison’s spread, and I work
on formulating the antidote, maybe we can make it.”
Aaron considered it. “That will only buy us two more days at most.”

He looked at Elissa. “You’d only be able to pull it off if you spent every waking moment, aside from grabbing a sandwich and water, buried in the lab.”

Everything she had now wasn’t just because of herself and Rowan, but also because of her mentor and Jacqueline.
If she were to give up the chance to save Jacqueline for any reason, she wouldn’t
be able to live with herself.

“What do you mean you can?” Aaron’s face was as dark as water. “If Jacqueline wakes up and sees

With their own son living abroad for so many years, Elissa was the one who had stayed by their side.
Having been together for over forty years, Aaron knew perfectly well that Jacqueline
had long treated Elissa like her own daughter.

Rowan pushed the door open, walked over to her, and squeezed her shoulder.
Elissa looked up at him. “What way?”
“Getting the antidote directly.”
Rowan had a backup plan. “I sent the component analysis to Laurel. She’s already trying to find the antidote.”
He paused. “You and Aaron stay here at the hospital. I need to head back to the office.”
“Okay. Be safe.” Elissa didn’t suspect a thing.

After Laurel received the analysis report, she immediately forwarded it to Serena.
Simultaneously, there was a knock on the study door. A staff member pushed it open. “Laurel, Jesse says the results are out.”
Laurel abruptly stood up, not even bothering to wait for the elevator as she hurried downstairs.
The atmosphere in Zephyr Manor had been taut all morning.
Both Suzanne and Rex hadn’t left Jesse’s side, waiting for the DNA results.
Seeing Laurel come down, Rex hurriedly urged, “Laurel’s down. Can you say it now?”
Laurel looked at Jesse, feigning composure. “Just as we guessed?”
“Exactly.” Jesse’s voice was shaking, but he enunciated every word. “Elissa is unequivocally our Vera.”
“And the sample Marcia provided back then most likely used Elissa’s hair.”
