It wasn’t too late in Vistapeak City, and the nightlife was just waking up.
Rex had arranged a single driver to take Marcia away.
Marcia didn’t care.
As long as they weren’t keeping her locked up or stopping her from returning to the Atwater family, she considered it a win.
It was clear the Wilkinson family didn’t actually care that much about Elissa, their long-lost daughter.
For years, Marcia had made Elissa’s life a living hell, and yet the Wilkinsons were brushing it all off as if nothing had happened.
Thinking about this, a smug smile tugged at the corners of Marcia’s lips. She glanced out the window and suddenly realized something was wrong. “Are you lost? If you don’t know the way, turn on the GPS.”
The driver didn’t so much as look at her. He remained completely silent, keeping his eyes on the road with zero intention of changing direction.
Marcia’s temper flared. “Are you deaf? Rex told you to take me to the Atwater family! If you keep going down this road, it’ll take a lifetime to get to Atwater Manor!”
No matter what had happened, she used to be the eldest daughter-in-law of the Atwater family. She knew the routes from downtown to their estate like the back of her hand.
And whichever route they were supposed to be taking, it definitely wasn’t this one.
The car rolled to a stop at a red light. The driver finally glanced back at her, his expression dripping with impatience. “When did Mr. Rex ever say I was taking you to the Atwaters?”
Marcia hadn’t taken the situation seriously until that very moment. Her nerves snapped taut, and she asked cautiously, “What do you mean? Where are you taking me?”

Laurel was heavily involved in politics.
If they had any sense of self-preservation, they surely wouldn’t dare do anything illegal to her.
Bolstered by that thought, she didn’t wait for the driver to answer. Her expression hardened as she issued a sharp warning. “What exactly are you trying to pull? Don’t forget my status as the eldest daughter! If you dare touch a hair on my head…”
Even as the words left her mouth, a jolt of fear spiked through her chest. What if the Wilkinsons truly didn’t care about the law?
As she spoke, she yanked hard on the door handle, desperately trying to open it and make a run for it. The lock didn’t budge.
“Relax, nobody wants to get their hands dirty. Didn’t they tell you? We’re sending you off to enjoy a life of luxury with a wealthy family.”
Watching her panic, the driver stated matter-of-factly, “Mrs. Wilkinson and the rest of the family have always been the type to repay malice with kindness.”
Marcia swallowed hard, finding a tiny sliver of comfort in his words. She calmed
down a fraction. “But… this isn’t the way to the Atwater estate.”
“It’s a wealthy family,” the driver said lightly as the light turned green and he hit the gas.
“But no one ever said it was the Atwater family!”
Marcia stared at him, her heart hammering. “Then who is it?”
“We’re just going the extra mile to finish the job,” the driver said in a flat monotone. “We’re making sure your baby is reunited with its real father.”
“The Crest family. Wyatt.”
Marcia’s eyes blew wide open, her mind flatlining into a suffocating blankness.
She desperately replayed the conversation she’d had with Rex back at Zephyr Manor.
It was true. From start to finish, Rex had never actually uttered the name ‘Atwater.’
How could this happen…

She snapped back to reality, glaring at the driver with bloodshot eyes
“What about Laurel? Laurel
promised she was going to send me back to the Atwater family!
The driver was unmoved. “Miss Wilkinson said that if the Atwaters came to propose,
you could go back.”
But the harsh reality was that the Atwaters had never shown up.
