Chapter 582
Late into the night, Rowan finally heard Elissa’s breathing even out beside him. He let out a silent breath. He waited a little longer, ensuring she was in a deep sleep, before carefully slipping out of bed.
Returning to the study, Rowan stood on the balcony for a long time before calling lan. “Has Frank Atwater been in contact with anyone suspicious lately?”
His intuition told him Frank might be involved. But knowing Frank, while the man was a hypocrite, he wasn’t exactly evil enough to orchestrate a poisoning.
The Murphy family and the Atwater family used to be evenly matched. Even though the Murphys had taken the lead, both families still kept tabs on each other.
lan answered quickly. “No, just his usual business partners.”
“No one?” Rowan’s brow twitched, the suspicion refusing to fade. “Keep a close eye on him.”
Meanwhile, at Zephyr Manor.
Today was supposed to be Elissa’s scheduled visit to treat Suzanne Jensen. However, Elissa had called early in the morning to cancel. Hearing about the family emergency, Suzanne was understanding and urged Elissa to take care of herself.
Still, after hanging up, Suzanne couldn’t hide her disappointment. She had specifically asked the kitchen to prepare Elissa’s favorite dishes.
Laurel Wilkinson walked downstairs and saw her mother’s crestfallen expression. “What’s wrong? Is Elissa not coming today?”
Laurel had heard from Rex the night before about the poisoning. She had planned to send for Mr. Whitman, only to find out Rowan had already brought him to the Murphy Group Research Institute. Rowan was certainly attentive when it came to ElÃssa.
“Yes, she has a family emergency,” Suzanne sighed. She knew how close Elissa was to her mentors. If Elissa truly was her missing daughter, Suzanne would be forever indebted to the couple for taking such good care of her.
Laurel took a glass of warm water from a maid, taking a slow sip. “Don’t worry. Once
the DNA results are out, everything will fall into place.”
She had rushed back the previous night, intending to see Elissa immediately. But after Jesse mentioned the pending DNA test, Laure had calmed down, deciding not to overwhelm her sister. She wanted Elissa’s return to the Wilkinson family to be perfect and undeniable.
Suzanne was about to nod when a maid hurried in from the courtyard. “Madam,
Miss Wilkinson, someone from the Atwater family is here.”
Laurel set her glass down. “Who?”
“Frank’s mother, Carmela.”
Suzanne and Laurel frowned simultaneously. The Wilkinsons rarely interacted with
the Atwaters outside of formal banquets.
