Rowan had actually considered this.
He was just worried about rushing things since they hadn’t been officially together for very long.
Discussing marriage when they had barely properly dated might make Elissa feel she was missing out on the experience.
He weighed his words. “I’ll find a good time to bring it up.”
If she wanted to get married, that would be perfect.
If she didn’t, dating for a couple of years first was fine too.
Janice understood that good things took time. “Just keep it in mind.”
Elissa was exceptional. There were plenty of wolves out there keeping an eye on her.
Rowan chuckled and agreed.
He went upstairs and knocked on Elissa’s door. No response.
Was she asleep?
He glanced down-light was still spilling from under the door.
She was really holding a grudge.
A helpless smile tugged at his lips. He spoke through the wood. “If you don’t open the door, I’m coming in myself.”
Still no answer.
Rowan grasped the handle and twisted, only to find it locked from the inside. He rubbed his temples, a slight headache forming.
Without another word, he walked away.
Elissa was half-lying in bed, pretending to read a book, but her peripheral vision kept darting toward the door.
Seeing it go completely quiet outside with no further sound.
She pressed her lips together, forcing herself to focus on the book.
But her mind wouldn’t settle.
Parents should unconditionally accept and love their child, no matter what.
She had truly believed Rowan felt the same way about boys and girls.
She even thought a man like Rowan would naturally spoil a daughter more.
She never expected him to actually favor a son.
Elissa touched her belly, whispering comfortingly, “Don’t be mad, don’t be mad. If Daddy really prefers boys, Mommy will just have you and no one else.”
Tanya had suffered so much because of a family that valued boys over girls. Elissa would never let her own daughter experience that.
If Rowan truly felt that way, she would only have this one child.
Lost in thought, exhaustion washed over her. She fell asleep before she even fully laid down.
When Rowan slipped into the room, this was exactly how he found her.
Her silky black hair was fanned out across the pillows, her lips slightly parted. At the faint sound of the door her long eyelashes fluttered, and she said down deeper into the fluffy down comforter.
But in doing so, her pale, slender feet slipped out from under the covers.
She had been like this since childhood-always a light sleeper.
Rowan stood at the foot of the bed. Instead of covering her up, he lightly tickled the
soles of her feet. She instantly retracted them back under the blankets.
Still half-asleep, she murmured irritably, “Rowan, stop messing with me…”
Rowan didn’t quite catch what she said, but he had no intention of
bothering her further. He simply: turned off the lights, quietly lifted the edge of the blanket, and slidin beside her, pulling her into his arms.
Elissa had grown accustomed to sleeping alone over the years. The sudden embrace jolted her slightly awake.
She nuzzled into his chest, and upon smelling his familiar scent of sandalwood, her defenses
completely melted Just as she was
about to drift off again, a deep, melodic voice sounded above her head. “Awake?”
