Seeing how openly Elissa trusted Janice, Tanya said nothing more.
Janice’s eyes widened in astonishment. She immediately took Elissa’s arm and guided her to a chair. “Pregnant? When did this happen? You must be in your first trimester. You have to be extra careful; it’s a delicate time.” Then, she tapped her forehead and chuckled. “Listen to me. I almost forgot you’re a doctor yourself p>
The news filled Janice with a mix of joy and sorrow. She was thrilled for Elissa, but her heart ached for her own grandson, that fool, who had just lost his chance for good.
Elissa smiled and answered each of her questions. “It’s very new. I only found out last night, so you’re one of the very first people to know. And everything seems stable so far, so please don’t worry p>
“Good, that’s good.” Janice’s gaze softened. “Now, hurry up and eat! Look at the time. You have to eat on a regular schedule from now on. A pregnancy takes a real toll on a woman’s body p>
The seafood salad ended up entirely on Tanya’s plate. “Your cooking is incredible,” Tanya gushed. “This is way better than what you’d get in a restaurant p>
“I’m just happy you enjoy it,” Janice said with a smile. “And I made plenty of the beef pies. I used different colored containers for each flavor, so when you heat them up, you can try a few different kinds at once p>
“You got it,” Tanya replied cheerfully. “Don’t you worry. From now on, I’ll be on pie- heating duty. Elissa won’t have to lift a finger p>
After chatting for a while longer, Janice got up to leave. Elissa walked her to the elevator, and thinking of her clinic, she couldn’t help but add, “Grandma, would you mind keeping my pregnancy a secret for a little while p>
If word got out to Marcia, there was no telling what trouble she would stir up. And if it somehow got back to Rowan, things would become even more complicated.
Janice, however, had a more traditional reason in mind. “Of course, dear. I wouldn’t have said a word anyway. It’s bad luck to announce a pregnancy in the first three months p>
Before the elevator arrived, Janice urged Elissa to go back inside.
Downstairs, a driver sitting in a black Mulsanne saw her exit the building and immediately pulled the car around, getting out to open the door for her.
The moment Janice settled into her seat, her phone rang. She pulled it out of her canvas tote bag. “Well, look who it is. Your timing is impeccable, you little brat p>
“You went to Vistapeak Gardens?” Rowan’s voice came through the line. His men had just reported her location.
Janice sniffed. “Go ahead, keep your spies on me day and night. If you have so much free time, why don’t you use it to win your girlfriend. back? Elissa was pregnant, and this idiot grandson of hers couldn’t even bring a girl home. The comparison was infuriating.
Rowan’s brow furrowed. “I thought you were fond of the young doctor. You just saw her. Why are you in such a foul mood p>
“It’s because of you, that’s why!” Janice said, her voice laced with exasperation. “You’re nearly forty and you still don’t have a serious girlfriend p>

“If you have one, then bring her home for me to meet p>
Rowan fell silent. Elissa had always been stubborn, and now she was desperate to cut all ties with him. If е
she found out Janice was his grandmother she’d probably stop talking to her, too
Beside him, Rex, who was shamelessly eavesdropping, burst out laughing.
“Grandma, he doesn’t have the guts to bring anyone home to you. Let him have

“If he can’t bring anyone home, then
he can get ready for a blind date,” Janice declared, her spirits lifting slightly at the prospect. “Actually, Rowan if you can’t find someone on your own, I have the perfect person in mind p>
