Rowan let out a low, humorless laugh. “You probably didn’t know this, but when Jacqueline was poisoned this time, she believed in you too.”
Frank stiffened slightly before responding with forced calm. “Rowan, this isn’t your style.”
Rowan raised a brow. “What isn’t?”
“Playing the emotional card. It’s not like you.”
Frank cut straight to the point, a hint of chill settling over his features.
Rowan snapped the cigarette in half, tossed it into the nearby trash can, and scoffed. “Do you want her to see this pathetic side of you?”
“Do you want her to know that the man she trusted so much was the one who poisoned the person closest to her?”
A fleeting moment of hesitation flickered in Frank’s eyes before his expression smoothed over. “Believe what you want, but I didn’t poison anyone.”
Rowan fixed him with a piercing glare, hitting the nail on the head. “But you do have the antidote.”
Frank frowned, staying silent.
Rowan’s gaze didn’t waver. “What’s your plan? Use the antidote to force her to remarry you? Or force her to run away with you?”
“Frank, you’re even more despicable than I thought.”
Frank let out an indifferent laugh. “Neither of us has the moral high ground here.”
The only advantage Rowan had was the nine years he had spent with Elissa.
If Frank had been given those nine years, he wouldn’t be standing here second- guessing his every move.
“You’re right.”
Rowan’s lips curled into a smirk. “That’s why I’m here to make a trade today.”
Frank shot him a wary look. “A trade?”
“An antidote for an antidote.”
Rowan casually checked his watch. “Right about now, Old Mrs. Atwater should be feeling the effects of the poison.”
“What did you say?”
Frank stared in disbelief. Before he could demand answers, the phone in his dress pants pocket started ringing.
He answered it. Within seconds, the color drained from his face.
Hanging up, he lunged at Rowan, swinging a furious punch!

Rowan stared him down, a dark smile playing on his lips. “If she doesn’t take the antidote within three hours, even the best doctors in the world won’t be able to save her.”

Frank took a deep, ragged breath and surrendered to reality. “I’ll trade with you!”
When it came to ruthlessness, he simply couldn’t outmatch Rowan.
Rowan glanced at lan standing behind him. Ian immediately stepped forward, holding out a small glass vial. “Mr. Atwater.”
Frank snatched it. Ian then held his hand open, waiting.
When Frank hesitated, lan
understood perfectly and offered a cool reminder, “Mr. Atwater, if you don’t hand it over right now yo definitely won’t make it back in time to give your grandmother the antidote.”
Frank gritted his teeth. “This is Atwater Group!”
lan didn’t flinch. “And Atwater Group is in Vistapeak City.”
Vistapeak City was Murphy territory.
