Chapter 536
Now Elissa was the one fussing over her.
Janice turned to look at the younger woman, her affection growing with every passing second. “It feels much better. In a couple of days, I’ll be able to go shopping with you, just wait and see.”
“I’ll take a look at it again before bed tonight,” Elissa promised.
The two women bantered back and forth as they made their way inside the warm house. During dinner, Elissa made sure to place the best cuts of meat onto Janice’s plate.
Mrs. Gable stood quietly nearby, ready to assist if needed. Watching the lively interaction, the housekeeper couldn’t help but feel that this once-cold, imposing mansion was finally starting to feel like a real home.
If only things could stay this way forever.
Janice was still entirely unaware that Rowan had left the country. After dinner, she turned to the housekeeper. “Mrs. Gable, keep an eye on the time and prepare some late-night snacks. I don’t want any of those brats going to bed hungry when they get back.”
‘Those brats’ referred to Rowan, lan, and Evan.
Rivercross Residence was divided into two structures: the main house and the guest annex. Ian and Evan spent most of their days working out of the main house, but retreated to the annex to sleep.
Because of this, all their meals and late-night snacks were typically handled in the main kitchen alongside Rowan’s.
Elissa dabbed her mouth with a napkin and interjected, “Mrs. Gable, you only need to prep for lan and Evan tonight. Rowan went on a business trip.”
“Understood,” Mrs. Gable replied smoothly.
“A business trip?” Janice chuckled, pretending to be offended. “That brat. He used to tell me when he was leaving town. Now he only reports to you.”
Elissa tossed her napkin into the trash, feigning an even deeper annoyance. “Don’t even get me started. He’s already on the plane and didn’t say a single word to me. lan had to call me just so I wouldn’t worry.”
“What?” Janice’s playful annoyance vanished, replaced by genuine indignation. “Just you wait. The second he lands, I’m calling him and giving him a piece of my mind!”
That foolish boy.
He finally managed to bring the love of his life back home, and he clearly had no idea how to cherish her.
Who on earth coaxes a girl into moving in, only to sprint across the globe on a business trip the very next day?

Elissa hadn’t explicitly planned on staying awake until Rowan landed but as she
lay in bed, she tossed and
turned, unable to find comfort.
Just as a heavy wave of exhaustion finally began to pull her under, the phone on her nightstand vibrated.
She snatched it up so fast she didn’t even check the caller ID. “Hello?”
Her voice was thick with sleep, soft and incredibly sweet.
Perhaps sensing her anxious anticipation in how quickly she answered, the man on the other end let out a low chuckle.
Just that single sound was enough for Elissa to know it was him.
At least he had the decency to call the second he got off the plane.
His deep, velvety voice filled her ear. “Were you waiting up for my call?”
“Yeah.” Elissa nodded into the empty room, snuggling deeper into the plush duvet: She reached out, her hand resting on the cool, empty space beside her where he had slept the fast two nights. She couldn’t help but pout a little. “I cant really sleep when you’re not here.”
It was terrifying how quickly she had gotten used to him.
It had only been two nights.
Through the receiver, Elissa could hear the howling of the wind, mixed with his steady voice. “Be good. I’ll be back in a couple of days. You need to get proper rest so the baby can grow big and strong
He still didn’t know the baby was his, yet he cared so deeply. Elissa felt a profound sense of gratitude wash over her again.
She was so incredibly lucky to have a man like him in her life.
Instead of agreeing, she whispered, “Rowan, come back soon. I have a secret I need to tell—”
“Rowan, the elevator is here.”
The sudden, crystal-clear voice of a woman cut through the wind and straight into Elissa’s ear.
It was a beautiful, elegant voice.
