Having not seen her for days and catching an early flight back, Rowan’s mind was already entirely consumed by the woman in his arms.
However, hearing her words, he reined himself in slightly. Releasing her lips, he tilted his head to nibble and nip at her earlobe. “Yeah? What is it? Tell me, I’m listening.”
His wandering hand didn’t stop.
Unbeknownst to her, he had already pinned Elissa against the wall. Now, his other hand began trailing downward.
Elissa had always known he was brilliant, but she never realized he was such a fast learner when it came to intimacy.
The moment his dry, warm hand moved, he effortlessly felt her reaction.
But the man wasn’t satisfied, growing even more brazen.
When it came to this, he knew exactly what she liked and what she didn’t.
Flustered and embarrassed by his teasing, Elissa bit her lip. “D-Do you hope it’s a boy or a girl?”
This was not how she had planned to tell him.
But she really wanted to know.
She wanted to see if he’d be surprised, if he’d be thrilled.
The boy who had been with her as she grew up was now going to be a father.
The sudden shift in topic caught Rowan slightly off guard. It took him a second to understand what she was asking.
Deep down, this baby had always felt like a taboo subject for him.
The woman he loved most was carrying a child, but it wasn’t theirs.
Rowan’s hands paused. One hand rested on her waist, while the other gently covered her subtly rounding belly. “A boy.”
His voice was intensely raspy, heavy with lingering desire, but his answer was decisive.
It sounded like an unwavering conviction he had held all along.
He wanted a son.
Elissa froze, instinctively asking, “You don’t want a girl?”
She had assumed Rowan would feel the same way she did that boys and girls were equal.
It was their flesh and blood; gender didn’t change a thing.
She would love her child unconditionally.
Rowan nodded. “Yeah, I don’t want a girl right now.”
Whether the child was his or not, his answer remained the same.

“Rowan, the food is ready. Old Madam wants to know if I should bring it up so Elissa
can eat a little with you.”
It was Mrs. Gable’s cautious voice.
Heating food didn’t take this long.
Janice and Mrs. Gable had probably debated downstairs for ages, finally coming up
to check so Rowan wouldn’t starve.
“No need…”
Rowan started to reply, but Elissa cut him off, answering Mrs. Gable directly.
“Mrs. Gable, don’t bring it up. He’s coming down to eat right now.”
With that, she tried to push him toward the door.
Realizing she couldn’t move him, a sudden wave of irritation hit her. She marched over to the door and pulled it open.
Mrs. Gable and Rowan exchanged a blank look.
Rowan pinched the bridge of his nose and glanced at Elissa. “You’re not coming down?”
