Maya pursed her lips. “If you don’t agree, forget I asked.”
“Does my agreement even matter?”
Jesse found it hilarious.
Rowan’s eyes were practically glued to Elissa.
There was no way he would marry anyone else.
Furthermore, Maya would soon have nothing to do with the Wilkinson family.
Let alone Rowan, not even the Murphy family’s matriarch would agree to this marriage.
After sending Maya away, Jesse received a call from Laurel.
Laurel was on her way back to Vistapeak City, but her voice carried a hint of excitement. “Jesse, is Elissa still at the house?”
Confused, Jesse answered her first. “No, she left about half an hour ago.”
For a long moment, there was silence on the other end of the line.
Jesse couldn’t help but ask, “Did something happen? Did you find something at the manor?”
Pausing slightly, he added, “By the way, I’ve already arranged a paternity test for Mom and Elissa. The results will be out next week.”
To be safe, they had to send it overseas.
It would cause a slight delay.
Hearing this, Laurel finally reacted, suppressing the answer bursting in her heart, and said, “That’s good.”
No matter how confident she was, it was still just a theory.
Everything depended on the paternity test results.
It was fine.
She had spent years searching high and low for Vera; waiting a few more days wouldn’t hurt.
She returned to Jesse’s question. “I did find something. This time, Maya won’t be able to escape.”
Their foolish father wouldn’t go as far as to protect Maya with the evidence smashed right into his face.
Jesse nodded. Hearing the exhaustion in Laurel’s voice, he asked with concern, “Did the divorce proceedings go smoothly today?”
Staring at the scenery flashing past the highway outside her car window, Laurel replied softly, “That doesn’t matter.”
After leaving Zephyr Manor, Elissa drove straight back to Rivercross Residence.
Hearing the commotion in the courtyard, Rowan came out and saw her stepping out
of the car with a bright smile, looking to be in high spirits.
He took her bag and raised an eyebrow. “What’s got you so happy?”
“I don’t know.”
Elissa’s eyes curved into crescents as she smiled, radiating a soft aura.
“Everytime I visit Zephyr Maure
feel incredibly happy.”
She didn’t know why.
It was just a genuine, involuntary joy.
She liked Suzanne, she liked Laurel, and she liked Jesse.
As for Rex…
Well, he was okay.
Rex had never really cared much for her in the past.
Rowan ruffled her hair. “If you like it, visit more often, or invite Suzanne over to play.”
He specifically said ‘over’.
Elissa instinctively looked up at him and asked, “Over to play?”
“Yeah, here.”
Rowan met her gaze unflinchingly, giving a serious and firm answer. “This is our home from now on.”
“Though, if you find a place you like better, we can always move,” he added.
Lately, Elissa felt as if her heart was constantly being filled to the brim.
So full it couldn’t take any more.
She smiled and shook her head. “I love it here already.”
She had loved it from the first time she visited.
She loved the place because it carried traces of his life.
Rowan had already eaten dinner, so after greeting Janice, the two headed upstairs together.
When Elissa stepped out of the bathroom after her shower, she at the vanity to do her skincare routine while Rowan stood behind her expertly blow-drying her hair.
Elissa was well used to this, completely engrossed in her own tasks.
She tapped away on her phone for a bit, then opened her drawers to rummage around.
When she held the Jade Pendant in
her hand, gently running her fingers
aver it, the large hand running through her hair suddenly paused.
She looked up in confusion and saw Rowan’s expression turn serious. “Where did
you get that?”
“I’ve worn it since I was little, but I only got it back last year.”
Elissa hid nothing.
As for the rest, she still hadn’t figured it out.
She didn’t know if this pendant was given to her by her adoptive parents or left on her by her biological parents…
Rowan nodded thoughtfully. Only after her hair was completely dry did he ask, “Let me see?”
Elissa didn’t say a word, simply and generously placing the item in his palm.
