By twelve-thirty, York Vance led a special ops unit to the designated location to rescue the hostage.
Harvey went with them. Consumed by anxiety, he insisted on going no matter what.
Whether it was his sister or not, he had to be there.
At one o’clock, thirty minutes after York’s team departed, Master Ellis received another update:
It was confirmed that the woman in the car was indeed Natalie Rivers, and Mishka was currently strapping something to her-suspected to be detonators.
According to informants in her inner circle, Mishka planned to bring Natalie and Mara to the meeting.
This confirmed Mira’s earlier suspicions. Mishka was going to use a rigged Natalie to hold Mira hostage.
If that was true, the situation was dire. Even aside from her friendship with Harvey, Mira couldn’t just ignore the life of a fellow citizen.
With things at this point, they could only play it by ear. She could only pray that York and the others succeeded in saving Natalie.

Back at the inn, the time arrived. Mira showed up at the agreed location exactly on schedule. However, she stopped at a safe distance of about a hundred feet from Mara.
Eighty feet was the lethal radius for standard small-scale time bombs.
If they were using a medium or large explosive, the device would be bulky enough to spot at a glance.
Furthermore, an explosion of that magnitude would obliterate Mishka and her guards before they could run. It would also alert the military.
They wouldn’t risk using something that massive.
Standing behind Mira were Owen, Hank Whitlock, Master Ellis, and several armed guards. They all held their weapons at the ready a wall of pure lethal intent
Mira looked at Mara and, seeing no sign of Natalie, let out a quiet breath of relief.
It seemed York’s rescue mission had either disrupted their plans or successfully secured the hostage.
Behind Mara stood Mishka and a
squad of armed thugs. They
equally heavily armed, but there’
maintained a strot fifteen foot
distance from Mara.
Judging by that spacing alone, Mira knew Mara couldn’t be wearing a heavy explosive.
Otherwise, fifteen feet would still be far too dangerous.
Or perhaps they planned to dive out of the way right as Mara rushed her.
But if they could dodge in time, why couldn’t Mira?
She decided to wait and see. As long as there were no hostages to hold her back,
the enemy didn’t have much of an advantage.
She took a closer look at Mara: heavy makeup couldn’t hide the deep wrinkles etched into her face.
Her loose clothes couldn’t conceal the fact that she was emaciated, nothing but skin and bones.
At only nineteen years old, she looked closer to fifty.
In this life, Mara had clearly suffered her punishment. Ending her today would
officially put all the hatred from Mira’s past life to rest.
At the same time, Mara was sizing Mira up.
Damn it, she still looks so radiant and flawless.
