Adrian was smiling and talking to Mara, but when he heard footsteps and looked up to see Mira, his face immediately soured.
Before he could speak, Ethan called out to her. “Mira, we’re having a celebration dinner for you and Mara. Come and eat p>
A celebration dinner? It was obviously for Mara. They didn’t even wait for her to start eating, and now she was supposed to be grateful?
“Well, thank you, but I already ate,” Mira replied perfunctorily.
“Mira, is that any way to behave?” Damon couldn’t hold back his anger.
“You’d best not talk to me about behavior. I’m tired today and I don’t want to fight with you.” With that, Mira continued walking.
“Stop right there. Have you no respect for your parents? For your older brothers p>
“No, I don’t. What are you going to do about it?” Since you have no respect for me, don’t expect me to have any for you.
“Mira, we’re a family, not enemies,” Ethan pleaded.
“Ha, a family? I certainly haven’t felt like it p>
“Mira, when did you become like this? Your brother Damon is only looking out for you,” Lacey said, looking at Mira with disappointment.
Adrian spoke up angrily, “Just ignore her. Let her do whatever she wants p>
“Sister, I know you hate me, but please don’t hate the whole family, okay? If… if it’s really too much… I’ll leave,” Mara said, sobbing.
“I seem to recall you saying that a long time ago. How come you still haven’t left p>

“Fine, I’ll leave. I’ll leave this house, how about that? Will that make you all happy? Then no one will be here to bother your precious baby anymore,” Mira said with a cold smile.
“I’ve said it before. Give me a legally binding document severing our ties, and I’ll get out of your sight for good p>
“Mira, we are a family,” Ethan stressed again.
“Can’t you all just say a little less? She’s still just a kid,” Ethan said, turning to the others.
“A kid? She’s seventeen, and you still call her a kid? It’s one thing to be thoughtless
at home, but does she have to act without any regard for the family’s interests outside as well?” Adrian roared.
“If you ask me, we’ve been too lenient with her in the past,” Damon added.
Mira ignored the others and looked directly at Ethan. “A family? Ethan, do you really think you’ve treated me like family? A fish rots from the head down Ethan. If you want respect, try earning it. You can’t live a lie and expect me to play the saint p>
With that, Mira turned and walked away without a second glance.
Damon said furiously, “Mom, Dad, look at what she’s become! We have to do something. We can’t let this go on p>
A smile flickered across Mara’s lips
before she quickly hid it. “Maybe we should do what Julian
suggested. Send her to a disciplinary school for a while. Perhaps, then she’ll learn to appreciate her family p>
