The next evening, Mira knew something was wrong the moment she walked in the door.
The family hadn’t eaten. Mara was crying again, with Mr. and Mrs. Mercer flanking her. Ethan and Damon stared grimly at Mira as she entered.
“What are you looking at me for? Did she pull another stunt p>
“Did you take Mara’s diamond ring?” Ethan asked, his face dark.
“If you’re going to accuse me, bring some evidence. Or call the police. Otherwise, shut your mouth. You just don’t give up, do you p>
Mira turned and headed for the stairs, planning to wash up and change.
“I know you’re short on money, but that diamond ring was a gift from Mom. It can’t be lost. Did you sell it? How else could you afford such an expensive performance gown p>
“Is that all you’ve got? Are you running out of tricks? Last time it was a bracelet, this time a ring. What’s next, a necklace and earrings p>
Mira sighed. She wanted to ignore them, but her fighting skills weren’t good enough yet. Overpowering her brothers was still out of the question for now. So, as long as she lived in the Mercer house, she couldn’t be too reckless.
Resigned, Mira walked back to the coffee table to confront them.
“I know you’re holding a grudge because I didn’t give up my spot in the finals, but if you’re going to make accusations, you need proof p>
“Don’t say that, I’m not accusing you, I’m not, I’m not… sniffle Before she could finish, Mara burst into sobs.
“Mira, if you took it, just give it back. We won’t punish you, okay?” Ethan Mercer couldn’t stand seeing Mara cry.
Mira looked at Ethan as if he were an idiot. “Time and place p>
“At eleven o’clock last night, Mara came downstairs for a drink of water and left the ring on the dining table. When she woke up at six this morning, it was gone. You were the only one who got up and left during that time. No one else was awake,” Lacey answered for Mara.
“So you’re saying I took it?” Mira shot Lacey a sidelong glance and then ignored her.
“Norman, pull up the security footage p>
Mira used to address the butler respectfully as Norman, but ever since she was reborn and learned he’d been bought by Mara, she say no reason to be polite. In her past life, these sycophants were all accomplices in Mara’s plot to have her killed.
The butler, accustomed to being treated with respect, flinched at Mira’s sharp tone.
“I already checked. It was nighttime, and the lights were off. The footage isn’t clear p>
“Not clear? Don’t give me that. The security lights are never off. You messed with the footage, didn’t you p>
Even after the main lights were turned off at the Mercer residence, nightlights remained on everywhere.
“Mira, speak to Norman with respect p>
“He has to be worthy of respect first p>
Mira pulled out her laptop, quickly hacked into the butler’s phone system, and used
a mini-projector to display the screen on the wall.
Mara had indeed come out at eleven, but she never went near the dining table. How could she have left a ring there?
As for Mira, the servants were still awake and the lights were on when she went into her bedroom, and she didn’t leave her room all night. When she woke up in the morning, it wa already bright outside. Though no one else was up she never approached the dining table. She just grabbed a bottle of water and left.
