Mira debated whether to give Ethan a warning. It wasn’t out of the goodness of her heart or some noble desire to turn the other cheek. She simply wanted to clear the debt she owed him. Before the holidays, Ethan had warned her about the ambush at the steakhouse; without his tip, things could have gone sideways.
But then she reconsidered. Mara hadn’t actually done anything to Julian yet. If Mira went to the Mercer family now and accused Mara of plotting murder, Lacey and the rest of them would instantly turn on her, calling her a malicious liar trying to sow discord.
And if the accident still happened, Mara and Mr. and Mrs. Mercer would absolutely find a way to shift the blame onto her.
So, she decided to drop it. If Julian crashed, it was his own bad luck. She would find another way to repay Ethan’s favor later.
Dismissing the Mercers from her mind, Mira turned her focus back to the stock market.
Her eyes landed on an unassuming ticker-Central Offshore Energy. A jolt of familiarity hit her.
She remembered now. This stock was going to skyrocket in about half a month. They were about to strike massive oil reserves on a remote island.
To ensure her memory was perfectly aligned with this timeline, she immediately called Master Ellis. “Master Ellis, I need your people to quietly look into the recent movements of the company behind Central Offshore Energy. I need it fast p>
“Consider it done,” Master Ellis replied. He trusted Mira’s instincts implicitly now. Just as Mira was finally getting ready to sleep, her phone rang again. It was Owen. “Come to the office tomorrow morning. I need to hand things over to you p>
“Hand what over p>
“What do you mean ‘what’? Didn’t you say you were going to take the reins as CEO p>
“I have school, Owen! I have my final exams this semester!” Mira practically wailed.
“You are the Chairman. The conglomerate belongs to you. If you don’t manage it, who will? I’m just one man with two hands. You asked me to run the tech firm for you, I cannot simultaneously be the CEO of Solflare p>
Mira let out a heavy sigh. “Fine. I’ll be there tomorrow. You are entirely devoid of joy, you know that p>
Owen paused, wondering if he was pushing her too hard. “Mira, heavy is the head that wears the crown. You have to maintain absolute contro over your empire, even if you hire a professional executive. Look once the tech company stabilizes, I’ll step back in to help you p>
She was about to hang up when she remembered what Liora had asked earlier.
“Are you flying back to Aethelgard in a week p>
“Yes. Why p>
“Two of my friends want to meet you p>
“Why would they want to meet me? I don’t have time. No p>
“They worship you. They’re your fans p>
“I don’t need fans p>
Mira rolled her eyes. She was right; the man was a total killjoy.
She would just tell Liora his schedule was too packed. As for the company, Mira had no intention of working herself to the bone. Harvey Rivers had offered to help, so she would gladly delegate to him. He held shares in almost all of her subsidiaries anyway, so it was only faishe put in the elbow grease. Though she would ensure he was properly compensated for the extra workload.
She couldn’t exactly rope Liora or Elara into corporate management since they lacked the necessary expertise. But there was Cyrus Montgomery. He had been
immensely capable during her time. in the capital, so she decided to promote him to her personal secretary at the executive office.
She had briefly considered bringing Marcus Sterling up from the entertainment division to assist her, but Marcus and Kieran Holt balanced each other out too perfectly down there. It was better to leave them be.
The next morning, after her morning workout and breakfast, Mira arrived at the Solflare headquarters. Harvey and Cyrus were already waiting in the executive suite.
Owen walked in, took one look at the three of them sitting shoulder-to-shoulder behind the mahogany desk, and scoffed. “Three of you taking the handover from just me? Doesn’t that seem a bit unfair p>
“Since you refuse to help, I had to bring reinforcements,” Mira shot back.
