“There are eight men in the cave not far from here. It’s likely them. There’s no one else suspicious on this hillside p>
Director Whitlock received a message just then. “The battle ahead is over. Mishka’s father escaped with his guards p>
With the direction confirmed, the group immediately followed the butterfly.
The butterfly didn’t stick to the beaten path, opting for a shortcut instead. They were
in hilly terrain, overgrown with weeds and thorny vines, their path frequently blocked by dense bushes.
Fortunately, it didn’t fly fast. It seemed to be waiting for them, always hovering just a short distance ahead.
About half an hour later, Mira and the others arrived at a spot where the butterfly circled a high slope before landing on Master Ellis’s shoulder.
“There’s no cave here,” York whispered.
“If it says there is, then there is,” Master Ellis replied.
One of the soldiers pulled out a life detector and whispered, “Just as we thought, eight people p>
They followed the detector’s signal and found a small opening about thirty feet away.
The cave was only three feet high and roughly two feet wide. A person would have to crouch to get in. Anyone taller would have to crawl.
The branches and weeds at the entrance looked undisturbed. But upon closer inspection, there were freshly fallen leaves and a few broken weeds nearby.
The life detector indicated the targets were less than thirty feet from the entrance. This suggested it was likely a temporary hideout with no exit on the other side.
“Let’s bomb them out p>
“Gas is safer p>
“They might have built up an immunity p>
The group conversed in hushed tones.
Master Ellis mixed several potent chemicals to create a powerful gas, loaded it into a sprayer, and pumped it into the cave.
Less than a minute later, a voice echoed from within. “Stop spraying! We’re coming out p>
Everyone immediately raised their weapons, surrounding the entrance, as Master Ellis halted the spray.
Two minutes later, a man crawled out, his jaw clenched tightly as fought to stay conscious.

Then came the second, the third… Each person who emerged was dealt with the
exact same way.
“Where’s the last one? Where is he p>
“There are only seven of us p>
Director Whitlock chimed in, “Mishka’s father isn’t among them p>
“Are you coming out on your own, or do I keep spraying?” York shouted into the
cave.
“Master, keep spraying. I’m worried he’s planning something,” Mira said.
What if he had explosives hidden inside and planned to take them all down with him?
Master Ellis pulled the pin on a smoke grenade.
“Don’t! We’ll make him come out,” a man who looked like an assistant yelled.
But Master Ellis tossed it in anyway. “Relax, it’s not a bomb. Just a little sleeping
gas p>
Two minutes passed without a sound

“Don’t! I’m coming,” a voice called out from the depths.
A minute later, a man crawled out wearing an oxygen mask. The gas hadn’t affected him at all.

“Kill him,” Master Ellis said without hesitation.
“But he’s already surrendered,” York hesitated.
“Move!” Owen ordered the soldiers holding the criminal. They immediately stepped aside.
