Chapter 1028
Gritting his teeth, Master Ellis pressed the black button. As the sound of grinding gears echoed, a gap slowly appeared in the massive concrete slab blocking their path.
But it quickly stopped moving.
He pressed the black button again, but it didn’t budge. He then pressed the white button, and the concrete wall started moving once more until it was completely out
of the way.
Master Ellis stepped through first to test it. Seeing it was safe, he called back, “It’s open. Move fast p>
Some mechanical doors had time limits, and getting trapped inside again would be disastrous.
Mira and the group sprinted forward, all passing through within thirty seconds. Master Ellis was the last to cross the threshold.
After he took just two steps forward, the concrete door automatically shut behind them.
Twenty minutes of walking later, they emerged into a wider area.
It looked like a large apartment with a kitchen, a stockpile of food and provisions,
and a bedroom complete with a bed and wardrobe.
“Let’s rest here for a bit, shall we?” Mira suggested.
“I’m guessing we’re not far from the exit. However, there will likely be another mechanical door ahead, and the button logic might be the exact opposite of the last one p>
In truth, the mechanisms here were much simpler than those in Mavaria. After all, Mavaria was the birthplace of such engineering.
After a grueling night and intense focus, everyone was exhausted and starving.
Sitting down, they drank from their water flasks and ate protein bars.
Despite the tempting food like sandwiches and pizza stocked in the fridge, no one dared to touch any of it.
It was only then that York voiced the question that had been bothering him.
“Why did those three women suddenly collapse earlier? Did you poison them?” He looked at Mira.
“I did p>
“When did you do that? I didn’t see a thing p>
“While we were talking to them. The sedative was airborne; all I had to do was uncap the vial and let it evaporate p>
Mira patiently answered his questions while chewing on her protein bar.
“If it was airborne, why didn’t it affect any of us p>
“Because I gave us the antidote beforehand p>
“The antidote? When? I had no idea,” Callum asked.
“When we entered the basement, I was at the front. I left the antidote at the entrance to the stairs. Anyone walking past would breathe it in,” Mira explained to the group.
“Your chemical skills are unbelievable! I’m going to report this to my superiors and make sure you get top honors.” York and Callum looked at her with shining eyes.
“No need. I’m not in the military. Medals don’t mean much to me p>
Mira’s only goal on this trip was to eliminate Mishka and destroy the operations behind her. With that done, her mission was complete p>
About half an hour later, the group stood up and resumed their trek.
They needed to get out quickly. The survivors and their own men were still on the ground floor of the, hospital. If someone triggered the underground explosives, it would be a total disaster.
Even though the basement entrances were sealed, they were worried about the enemy’s inside men.
Sure enough, after walking for another half hour, they hit another dead end.
This time, however, it didn’t take long. Using the same logic as before, they easily located the two buttons.
Master Ellis again ordered everyone back so he could handle it. But no matter how he pressed the two buttons, the door refused to budge.
Mira and Qwen stepped up to help figure out the problem, and they surprisingly found a tiny black speck on the ceiling the door successfully opened, and a rush of cool air immediately hit their faces.
“We did it,” Mira said.
The other exit of the tunnel emerged at the base of a hill not far from the hospital. The entrance was concealed by tall plants and dense brush, making it nearly invisible to anyone walking by.
