Tears clinging to her lashes, Helena stepped out of the Wilson Group building looking thoroughly distraught.
Betsey spotted her miserable appearance and barely hid her exasperation, rolling her eyes. She wanted to hurl an insult, but a sudden flurry of sneezes came out instead. The chill had numbed her lips so badly, she could barely form words. Trailing behind Helena, Xavier put on a stern expression and called out loudly to the front desk staff and security, “Effective immediately, no one from Nexus TV is allowed past this point p>
Employees and bystanders quickly gathered nearby, drawn by the rising tension. Mortified, Betsey didn’t even attempt to address Helena. She spun on her heel and stormed off without so much as a glance back.
Helena, though, fought back a grin and exchanged a quick glance with Xavier once Betsey’s back was turned. Everything Alden had orchestrated was falling neatly into place. It wouldn’t be long before word got out that Nexus TV’s attempt at negotiation had failed.
Later, in Alden’s office, Xavier gave a brief report. “Your wife has returned to her workplace. I’ve already sent someone to handle the news. But, just as you predicted, someone else beat us to it p>
Alden’s smile was razor-sharp. “Rylan’s banking on the past to bring me down. He doesn’t realize that it won’t be my downfall—it’ll be someone else’s p>
When Rylan heard that Helena, representing Nexus TV, had approached Alden for negotiations but the meeting had ended in a bitter clash, a faint, frigid smirk tugged at his lips.
Before he could enjoy it further, hurried footsteps echoed down the hall—Chadwick stormed into the study, ignoring Caleb’s attempt to hold him back.
With a dismissive flick of his hand, Rylan said to Caleb, “You can leave now. Stick to what we discussed p>
But Chadwick, visibly shaken, reached out to stop Caleb. “Wait—don’t go just yet p>
Frozen between them, Caleb glanced between the two, unsure whether to leave or stay put.
Rylan’s patience wore thin. “If you have something to say, Dad, say it already p>
Clearly rattled, Chadwick asked sharply, “Are you the one behind those stories about Alden p>

Chadwick’s eyes briefly flashed with unease, but he brushed it off. “There’s nothing I’ve kept from you. The news has been removed. Just focus on winning the redevelopment project. Don’t let yourself be distracted p>
Though his father’s tone was firm, Rylan could sense there was more beneath the surface. Yet, he kept his face pleasant. “Understood. I’ll follow your lead p>
As soon as Chadwick stepped out, the warmth drained from Rylan’s features, replaced by a cold expression. “Caleb, start digging. I want everything there is to know about that incident in Alden’s past. My father’s hiding something, and I want to know what p>
Without hesitation, Caleb nodded and left the room.
Rylan’s expression hardened as he tapped his fingers rhythmically against the desk, deep in thought. Chadwick held no real authority within the Wilson Group; even the most recent land auction collapsed under his mishandling. Everything was unfolding exactly as Rylan had envisioned—Alden’s marriage was unraveling, and Frida’s trust in him would soon erode. And now Chadwick expected him to back off? Not a chance.
