Helena’s heart raced with panic. She attempted to snatch the phone to assure Alden she was okay.
But Chadwick swiftly moved the phone out of her reach, his expression unyielding, and took the call.
“Is Helena with you? Release her immediately. Any issues you have, direct them at me,” Alden said through the speaker, cold and commanding.
Despite his chilling tone, Helena felt a wave of relief wash over her, like clinging to a lifeline in treacherous waters.
Chadwick laughed with evident pleasure. “I normally wouldn’t make things difficult for my son’s wife, but that depends on my son’s willingness to honor his father p>
He then sharpened his voice, laying down his terms. “You want her freed? Then sign over half of your shares in Star Wish Investments to me and bring the paperwork yourself p>

Chadwick made no move to stop her. Instead, he pushed the phone closer to her lips with a taunting smirk. “Shout all you want. The louder you cry out, the quicker Alden will come running p>
Tears brimmed in Helena’s eyes as she shot Chadwick a look filled with loathing, yet she remained silent, fearing any words might worry Alden further.
“Listen to that, Alden. Your wife’s right here with me,” Chadwick said into the phone, his voice growing more sinister. “You better follow instructions. Remember all you’ve put her through. You left her once already. Would you abandon her again p>
Was there truth to what he said? Had Alden really left her once before? Chadwick’s words caused Helena to gasp in disbelief. Alden had done so much for her—why would Chadwick say something like that?
