Hearing that, and seeing Valeria’s confidence, Helena finally relaxed. The suspicion in her heart faded away.
Valeria then steered the conversation elsewhere. She excitedly brought up how her income had shot up lately. After all, she was treating Savannah now—and both Savannah and her son were paying her.
Laughter and chatter filled the car again. Everything felt lighthearted and easy. But none of them had any idea that a terrible piece of news was just around the corner, waiting to tear that joy apart.
Helena, Dorian, and Valeria arrived at the airport and quickly inquired about Alden’s private jet. But instead of good news, they were hit with the awful shock that the plane had gone off the radar.

The news hit Helena like a ton of bricks. She stood there, stiff as a board, her thoughts completely scattered. Then, all at once, her face twisted with worry. She kept shaking her head, saying no again and again, refusing to accept it.
Dorian and Valeria were just as shocked. The news had caught them off guard, too.
After a few moments, they pulled themselves together and moved to stand beside Helena. They tried to soothe her frayed nerves.

“This can’t be true! They must’ve got it wrong! I’ve got to see the control room myself. I need to speak to the plane directly!” Helena cut Valeria off, her voice full of raw emotion. Her eyes were distant and unfocused, like she was locked inside her own head, deaf to everything around her.
Normally calm and courteous, Helena now appeared ghostly and tense. Without hesitation, she shrugged off Valeria’s grip and marched straight toward the control room.
“Ms. Ellis, you can’t go in there! Only authorized personnel are allowed!” One of the staff members rushed over and stepped in front of her to stop her from going any further.

Helena’s voice came out rough, trembling at the edges as if a cry was on the verge of escaping.
