As Helena approached her home, she caught sight of Emily waiting at the roadside.
Instinctively, she paused, rooted to the spot.
Emily caught Helena’s eye, offered a wave, and made her way toward her.
“Hey, Helena, why are you just standing here?” Emily asked as she affectionately linked arms with Helena.
Helena tensed up. “How did you find out where I live p>
She had carefully avoided disclosing her new address to the Simpson family, Emily included, after her marriage.
Emily averted her eyes, her expression slightly hurt. “Don’t worry, I didn’t mention it to Mom. I understand how you feel about our family intruding. I just needed to see if you were alright p>
The cold had turned her nose red, and she continually clasped her hands together for warmth.
“Given our family’s prying eyes, I avoided bringing the driver and decided to wait here for you instead,” she said.
Helena felt her defenses weaken slightly. “Come on, let’s go inside.” She guided Emily into her home.
Emily glanced around at the simple furnishings, a hint of contempt flickering in her eyes.
Alden’s true capabilities were so well-concealed that even Rylan remained unaware, let alone the oblivious Helena.
Helena handed Emily a mug of hot cocoa. “Drink this; it’ll help warm you up. We don’t want you getting sick p>

She retrieved a file from her bag, which contained details of how Alden and his mother were expelled from the Wilson family by his father, Chadwick, twenty years ago.
Within months, Alden found himself embroiled in a murder case, which resulted in his deafness.
Helena’s hands shook as she flipped through the investigation results, seeing past the dry text to the tragedy of Alden’s youth.
“Why are you showing this to me? This should go to Gianni,” Helena said, her voice quivering with anger.
