Eleanor’s face went pale with shock.
Was it possible that Helena had asked Laurence for support?
The idea didn’t scare her. Even if Dorian was backing Helena now, it meant nothing without solid proof.
Eleanor lifted her chin and spoke with a forced sense of confidence, “Mr. Palmer, you can’t possibly believe the lies Helena has been telling you about me p>
Laurence’s expression darkened, anger radiating from him.
“I don’t care about who took which necklace,” he snapped. “What were you thinking, Eleanor, stepping onto a sponsored broadcast wearing jewelry from a competing brand?” Those words hit Eleanor like a slap.
In an instant, she remembered. Nine O’clock News had an exclusive partnership with LadyLuxe Jewels. According to her contract, she had agreed not to wear accessories from any other brand. Breaking this contract would require her to pay three times the compensation.
Laurence’s voice grew louder, his anger now unmistakable. “And that photo you posted on Instagram last night, the pearl necklace in the photo isn’t from our sponsor either. That post went viral! You’re going to be sued for sure p>
Before Eleanor could respond, Glenda moved forward, her voice like ice as she said, “Miss Murphy, please hand over the necklace you’re wearing now, along with the one from your Instagram post. We need both for documentation. Legal action will follow, and you’ll be dismissed from the team. As for the losses you’ve caused, both LadyLuxe Jewels and Nexus TV intend to pursue full compensation p>
Everything around Eleanor spun. Her knees weakened, and her vision blurred as she swayed on the edge of fainting.
Not a single one of Eleanor’s usual colleagues dared step forward. Even her closest work friends kept their distance now, as if her downfall were contagious, not wanting to be drawn into her misfortune.
Panic drained the color from Eleanor’s face. Across the room, she spotted Helena standing still, calm and composed, and in that moment, everything snapped into place.
With an accusing finger pointed at Helena, Eleanor shouted, “It was you! You reported me to Mr. Palmer and the legal department p>
Helena didn’t deny it. “I gave you a chance,” she said evenly, her fists tightening at her sides.

With a shove, Helena brushed Eleanor aside and walked toward Glenda. Her voice softened. “Once you’ve taken the pictures for evidence, could you pass everything directly to the authorities? There are personal matters between Eleanor and me I’d like the police to review p>
From the corner of her eye, Glenda observed the scene. Eleanor was still thrashing and screaming, while Helena stood tall, composed, and dignified. It baffled her how someone like Eleanor had ever been trusted to represent the Nine O’clock News.

Helena turned to Laurence with a serene smile. “Mr. Palmer, there’s no need to worry. I’ll escort her outside to meet the police. This is a private matter between me and Eleanor, and since she’s being dismissed, it won’t tarnish Nexus TV’s name p>
With Laurence’s obsession over Nexus TV’s reputation, Helena had already predicted he’d want things handled quietly. The moment Eleanor handed over the jewelry, it would only take one professional appraisal to confirm the pearl necklace belonged to the Wilson family. Once that happened, Eleanor would have no way out.
Laurence gave a quick nod, clearly relieved by Helena’s solution.
Around them, coworkers who had once shared laughter and gossip with Eleanor now stood frozen, watching the scene unfold in utter disbelief.

Voice shaking, Eleanor screamed through gritted teeth, her eyes rimmed with red, “Even if you destroy me, Helena, you’ll never get that necklace back p>
