“The light’s green now,” Helena said, her voice cutting through the blaring horns.
Only when the honking grew louder did Xavier glance up, realizing the signal had already changed.
He exhaled slowly. “Mrs. Wilson, I honestly don’t know anything about this. Maybe you should ask Mr. Wilson yourself.” Helena chose not to press the matter further.
It would be futile to pressure Xavier any longer.
She knew Alden wasn’t the type of man to openly express his emotions. And no matter why he had agreed to marry her, she had no intention of abandoning her own plan.
Yet, the question lingered—why would Alden go so far to keep one secret buried?
Then the memories of their two kisses flooded her mind, and with them, her emotions spiraled once more.
It wasn’t until Helena stepped out of the car that Xavier finally had a chance to send Alden a message.
At home, Alden remained still and silent for thirty minutes. He had always known the day would come when Helena would discover the truth about Nyno, but he had never imagined it would lead to such a misunderstanding.
Inside the Nexus TV building, Betsey could barely contain her glee, picturing Helena’s reputation crumbling.
Considering how ruthless Neville and Laurence could be in bed, Betsey was confident Helena wouldn’t show up for work in a week.
Across the office, Tessa quietly set a cup of coffee on Helena’s desk. Betsey scoffed.
“Tessa, seriously? You’re playing waitress for a ghost. Helena’s not coming in today p>
Her laughter echoed, full of mockery.
As she reached for the cup, planning to enjoy it herself, Helena appeared out of nowhere.
Betsey stared at her in disbelief.

“Was I supposed to stay home?” Helena replied, her gaze sharp enough to cut glass.
The look on Helena’s face made Betsey take an involuntary step back.
“Just curious—why did you skip the get-together Mr. Palmer arranged last night p>
Helena took a step forward, closing the distance between them.
“I-I had other things to handle. That’s why I couldn’t come,” Betsey stammered, her eyes darting around for a way to escape. She turned to leave, but the other women in the office moved to block her path.
“I showed up,” Tessa said, her usual light tone now cold.
“So did the rest of us,” someone else added.
Betsey’s heart skipped a beat as the realization hit her. Helena had managed to get everyone in the office involved, which meant Neville hadn’t gotten his way.
But that didn’t mean he was done. His eyes were now locked on Helena.
And when Neville wanted something, he didn’t give up easily.
“Even if you all had a good time, there’s no need to tell me about it p>
Betsey tossed the coffee cup onto Helena’s desk, then snapped at Tessa, “Tessa, go get me a new one. This one’s awful p>
Tessa’s face twisted with anger. Her mouth opened to respond, but before she could speak, the cup of coffee hit Betsey square in the face with a loud splash.
Betsey gasped sharply as the hot liquid ran down her cheeks, smearing her makeup into a smeared mess.
The office fell silent. Everyone stood frozen, except Helena, who remained calm.
“Oh no, my hand slipped. Hope that didn’t ruin your day,” Helena said, her tone almost casual.
Betsey shrieked, “Helena, are you out of your mind p>
Helena leaned in slowly, as if offering help, then grabbed Betsey by the collar with a firm grip.
She’d been wanting to do that for far too long.
“That’s what you get for setting me up with Neville yesterday.” Her voice dropped to a whisper, but her eyes gleamed with menace. “And next time, get your own damn coffee. You’ve got two hands, don’t you?” Without a care, Helena wiped her hand clean on Betsey’s ruined blouse, disgust evident on her face.
Rage surged through Betsey, but no sound left her lips.
Whatever remnants of the meek Helena she had known had vanished. Standing before her now was someone bold, steady, and unshaken.
“Did you hear? Neville slipped on the sidewalk after the party last night. Fractured his tailbone. He’s taking a month off to recover,” Dominick said as he walked into the office.
Betsey’s heart skipped a beat.
Every insult she had planned for Helena vanished before they even reached her lips.
She had insulted Helena countless times, but now Neville hadn’t even touched Helena before breaking his own bones… A cold shiver crept down Betsey’s spine, silencing her completely. Without another word, she pushed past Helena, her face pale, and rushed to the restroom.
Even Helena found herself puzzled.
In just one night, Nightfall Bar had fallen into someone else’s hands. On top of that, Neville was injured.
Could there really be something—or someone—correcting the wrongs done to her?
Tessa let out a soft laugh. “Maybe the universe is finally on our side. If only it would help clear out the rest of the jerks too p>
“One down, but there’s still another above us,” Dominick murmured, glancing toward Laurence’s office. No one had to ask what he meant. They all knew.
With Laurence backing Neville, the man had gotten away with far too much for far too long.
Now that Neville was injured, the station would need a new male anchor for the Nine O’clock News. Laurence wouldn’t take the news well.
Tessa’s face tightened with worry.
Interns like her already had slim chances of landing a permanent position. If the chaos continued, her future could slip through her fingers.
“This mess isn’t ours to fix. They’re the ones who’ve crossed the line,” Helena said, her voice steady. “If Mr. Palmer wants someone to blame, I’ll take it p>
She loved working at Nexus TV. More than anything, she hoped to become their next news anchor.
But she wasn’t willing to sell out her beliefs for a title. She had drawn her line, and she intended to keep it.
Dominick gave her a quick reminder about the weather segment.
Helena skimmed the script once more before heading off to get into position.
