Alden froze mid-motion.
Leonino exhaled deeply, swiftly prescribed emergency medication, then modified the hearing aid with practiced hands before returning it.
Alden swallowed the pills and slipped the hearing aid back into place, his expression hardening with unwavering resolve.
Upon learning that Alden intended to rescue Helena alone, Leonino insisted on accompanying him.
But Alden, determined to ensure nothing jeopardized Helena’s safety, adamantly refused the offer.
He didn’t spare a moment for gratitude before rushing toward the factory, every second precious.
In the grimy, abandoned factory, Eleanino and Helena had just sealed their wager. With a disgusted grimace, Eleanino waved her hand before her nose and turned abruptly to leave.
Only a single hired thug remained behind to guard Helena.
Observing her, bound tightly like a mummy, unexpected compassion flickered across his weathered face. On his own initiative, he loosened the ropes constraining her upper body and tossed her some bread and water.
Helena recognized that when Alden arrived, another brutal confrontation awaited them all.
Though her stomach rejected the thought of food, she forced herself to tear through the plastic wrapping and consume the bread, one determined bite after another.
“You’ve got guts. I’ll give you that. Still eating at a time like this?” The thug stared at Helena calmly chewing, unable to hold back from speaking.
Helena didn’t respond. He gave a dry chuckle and added, “Bold as you are, you’re not exactly the brightest. That woman went through a lot to bring you here. Don’t you get it? She plans to kill you. Whether you win or lose, it ends the same—you’re dead either way p>
He let out a theatrical sigh, trying to sound deep. “Women, always tangled in their emotions, even when death’s knocking. Shame, really p>
Helena, still working through her bread, kept her eyes on him.

“Actually, it means everything,” said Helena, not blinking. “My life is worth far more than Eleanino’s. If she lays a finger on me, both Alden and the Harrison family will make her regret it. She might kill me, but she won’t get to celebrate it p>
“Alden? Harrison?” the thug asked, eyes narrowing. “You mean Alden Wilson and that powerful Harrison family p>
