Alden froze at those words, his eyes wide with disbelief.
His gaze was usually sharp and intense, often half-closed. But now, his eyes were wide open in shock, making him look almost endearing—a side Helena had never noticed before.
She had to bite back a laugh before she finally shared the full story of her tangled history with the Harrison family.
Once she was done, Helena pressed her lips tight and apologized.
“I… I didn’t know my real parents were after you. But since it all started because of me, I still feel like I should say sorry p>
Alden didn’t seem bothered by the mess with Star Wish Investments at all. He just stared at her, still in shock.

“Yep.” Helena nudged his shoulder playfully, flashing a grin. “Didn’t see that coming, huh? Even you, with all your smarts, can slip up sometimes p>
“I don’t have any smarts. I’ve been such an idiot.” Alden chuckled at himself, then suddenly took her hands in his, letting out a soft sigh. “You’re right. I should’ve dug deeper. If I’d figured it out earlier, you wouldn’t have had to bear that huge secret alone p>
Helena hadn’t expected him to react this way. She looked at him, stunned. “You—you’re really not mad p>
“Mad about what p>
“That I hid it from you. And that the Harrison family was going after you p>
Alden’s lips curved into a small smile. “If we’re talking about secrets, I’m the one who kept some first. What do I have to be mad about? As for the rivalry with the Harrison family, I did consider getting back at them. But since they’re only after me because of you, I really don’t hold it against them p>
Helena was filled with mixed emotions; for a moment, she was at a loss for words.
Alden, on the other hand, slowly frowned and looked at her once more. “It must be tough dealing with your real parents, right? If you don’t want to face them, just say the word. Don’t worry about them coming after me—I’ve got it covered. I’ll keep you safe p>

They held each other close as evening settled in, and a soft darkness filled the room. Their faces became blurred in the low light, but neither of them felt like walking away to turn on the lights. With the darkness quieting everything around them, Helena’s voice felt even more enchanting. She laughed softly, her tone playful.
“So, Mr. Wilson, now that you’re not worried I’ll run off, can I go out p>
“Oh, so now you’re teasing me, huh?” Alden chuckled as well, but then he lowered his head and pulled her close, giving her a teasing, intense kiss. This time, Helena was truly flustered.
