Helena stood frozen for a heartbeat. Then, in a flash, Dorian closed the distance and delivered a sharp chop to the back of the attacker’s neck. The man’s sight blurred, and he reeled unsteadily on his feet. Helena and Valeria locked eyes for a split second, then both slammed their heels down hard on his feet at the same time.
“Ah!” Trapped between the two women, the man shrieked and staggered backward, crashing into the wall with a thud.
Before he could gather his wits, Dorian sprang at him, grabbed a fistful of his shirt, and drove a heavy punch into his jaw.
“You dare lay a hand on my girl? You must have a death wish!” he barked. The memory of Valeria being dragged by her hair surged into his mind, and rage twisted his face as he unleashed blow after punishing blow, each one harder than the last.
The attacker was a bigger man, and he bounced back fast, throwing punches with his jaw clenched tight. But Dorian played it clever—after just a few quick moves, he had shut down every attempt the man made to strike back.
At first, the attacker spat curses and growled through gritted teeth. Soon enough, though, the only sounds filling the air were the dull smack of Dorian’s fists and the attacker’s low, pained groans. Helena had known Dorian for ages, and to her, he had always seemed like a charming, carefree flirt.
But now, the cold fury pouring off him was just as chilling as anything she’d seen from Alden.
