Alden let out a low laugh but offered no reply. His silence spoke volumes. Helena took it as a yes and hesitated, leaving the light untouched.
“But they must have seen me come back. If the place stays dark now, they’ll start wondering.” She spoke in a hushed tone, gently leading Alden to the sofa so his tall frame wouldn’t cast a shadow on the curtains.
Helena then strolled over to the window, flipped on the light, and calmly pulled the drapes. To throw off anyone who might be watching, she even threw in a big, lazy stretch before she tugged the curtains fully closed.

Alden loosened his tie with ease, the knot slipping down as his shirt collar shifted to the side. A glimpse of his collarbone showed, giving him a rakish, irresistible charm.
“Yes, I fooled you. So what are you going to do about it?” he said, grinning slyly.
“You jerk!” Helena was fuming. She clenched her teeth and lunged at him, lifting her hand to swat his shoulder.
But the cheeky man was quicker—he opened his arms wide and swept her right into them.
He locked her in a firm hug, holding her so snugly that she couldn’t budge an inch.
