She rolled over immediately, ready to stand, when his voice reached her — low and edged with defeat.
“Kristine, you’ve caused enough trouble for one night. Isn’t it time to let this go p>
She went still.
So this was how Colton saw it. Her desperate efforts to protect her father’s legacy were nothing more than needless drama to him. She should not have been surprised. To Colton, those antiques were worthless relics.
Yet if it had been Elyse in her place, things would have been entirely different. Elyse only had to mention craving a pastry, and Colton would have had it flown across continents to please her.
Kristine raised her chin and met his eyes without backing down. “I guess I like being difficult. If it’s such a problem, you should have let me go p>
Colton’s frown deepened. “Do you even realize that boarding that flight could make the police think you’re running from the law p>

“So what?” A sharp, humorless laugh escaped her. “Let them think what they want. If it means jail time, I’ll survive. That doesn’t frighten me p>
Colton stared at her, momentarily at a loss for words, then pressed his fingers to the bridge of his nose. His voice turned cold. “You’re not thinking clearly right now. Take some time to calm down p>
He left the room without another glance and closed the door behind him.
A faint, bitter smile crossed Kristine’s lips as she watched him go.
She knew exactly what she was risking. But Colton could never grasp how deeply those antiques mattered to her. She needed to find a way to protect what her father had left behind.
Turning the problem over in her mind, Kristine thought of Asher. The Edwards family held real influence in Peudon — surely Monica would think twice if he intervened. All that remained was whether he would be willing to help.
After a long hesitation, she gathered her courage and sent him a message.
Downstairs, Bobby approached quietly, noting the exhaustion in Colton’s posture as he pressed his fingers to the bridge of his nose.

Bobby turned to go, but Colton reconsidered almost immediately. “Wait. Find out what made Kristine so desperate to get out of Gridron tonight p>
Something about the situation did not sit right with him. He doubted she would do anything so reckless without a real reason. She had wanted to leave before — but only to leave the villa, not Gridron entirely. A troubled look settled on his face as the thought lingered.
Bobby gave a quick nod. “Understood, sir p>

When morning came, Bobby returned and found Colton still stretched out on the sofa. He cast a brief glance upstairs before composing himself. “Mr. Yates, I’ve found out what happened. Ms. Green tried to leave last night because her mother took possession of her antiques p>
