The search had turned up only one lead: Monica had visited a few days before. Whatever had passed between them remained a mystery — the neighbor had only remarked that Kristine seemed completely out of sorts afterward. Monica’s words were clearly the cause. Still, Asher decided against pressing Kristine about it.
“Excuse me, is Kristine Green here?” A familiar voice rang out from the doorway, breaking the quiet without warning.

She whipped out her phone and began scrolling, completely overlooking Asher’s presence in the room. Kristine shot him an apologetic glance. Asher simply offered a small, reassuring smile. If anything, he found Danica’s lively, unfiltered energy rather refreshing.
