For once, Colton had nothing to say.
Not long after, Bobby forwarded the electronic invitation to Kristine through Facebook.
“Good. You can go now,” Kristine said, waving Colton away as though he were nothing more than background noise.
A mix of emotions passed over his face as he stood there watching her scroll through her phone without sparing him a glance. After several uncomfortable minutes, he finally turned and left.
Her lack of protest had already caught him off guard. What Colton failed to understand was how much the wedding itself mattered to her. Since Elyse had made it her mission to complicate her life, Kristine saw no reason to make things easy for her in return.

Inside a different hospital room, Elyse stared at her phone as the words sank in. The chill that spread through her was instant and suffocating.
Earlier that day, she had already heard about Luna and Victoria going to confront Kristine. Hope had lingered that they would put an end to the wedding, yet the invitation now sitting on her screen crushed that thought completely. No. This could not be happening.
