Kristine stared at Elyse as though the question were foolish. After a long moment, she laughed softly.
“What’s so funny?” Elyse asked, her voice unsteady.

Elyse stiffened and looked at her.
Kristine had already closed her eyes again. Her face revealed nothing, yet the chill radiating from her said more than enough.
Elyse had heard those words before. She had never believed them — anyone could see how deeply Kristine had once cared for him.
Then the realization surfaced. Kristine truly felt nothing for him now.
Instead of relief, despair washed over her. So Kristine had been telling the truth all along. Colton had come to Peudon not because Kristine followed him — he had come for Kristine himself. Elyse bit down hard on her lip, her body trembling.
Outside the Edwards Group headquarters, Danica’s voice had grown rough, but she refused to back down. “I really do know Mr. Edwards,” she insisted. “If you don’t trust me, just let me use your phone and I’ll prove it p>
“Ma’am, you cannot enter,” the guard said, his patience thinning. “Please don’t force us to act p>
Danica’s expression darkened. She glanced down and noticed her swollen ankle. Before leaving, Colton had locked her inside a room — she had struggled to escape and injured herself in the process. Now, Asher was the only person who could help Kristine.
With that thought, she looked back up at the guard and put on a crestfallen expression. “Alright. I’m sorry p>
She bent slightly, and the moment the guard relaxed, she slipped past him — ignoring the sharp pain in her foot — and rushed into the building, heading straight for the elevator.
Inside, Danica stared anxiously as the floor numbers climbed. When the elevator finally stopped at the thirty-second level, she exhaled with relief. The doors slid open and she limped forward, dragging her aching leg toward Asher’s office.
Behind her, a guard’s shout echoed down the corridor. “She got through — stop her p>
Danica didn’t look back. She refused to believe Kristine would have done any of this without reason. No matter what, she had to help her.
Then a tall figure stepped into her path. She failed to stop in time and slammed into his chest.
Suppressing the pain, she lifted her head — and froze when she saw Nathan.
Footsteps closed in from behind.
Without thinking, Danica grabbed his collar. “Where is Asher? I need to see him right now p>
Nathan said nothing, his gaze fixed on her.
A chill ran through Danica, and her grip loosened. “So he knew I’d come. He sent you to block me p>

When he saw her falter, a trace of sympathy crossed his eyes, though his voice remained measured. “Mr. Edwards asked me to tell you that he already knows what happened to Kristine. Since she and Mr. Yates are back together, he believes their affairs should remain between them p>
