Chapter 20

Chapter 20:

“Please cooperate with the investigation p>

By the time Kristine stepped off the plane, her thoughts had finally settled, yet a chilling cold still lingered in her hands and feet.

“Please stay here for a moment.” A female officer guided her into a small room.

At first glance, she noticed Colton seated inside. Resting on the sofa, he carried his usual aloof, refined presence, though faint weariness lingered on his otherwise flawless features.

Finding Colton there did not surprise Kristine in the slightest. K&C Entertainment had been established by the two of them together — given the situation, it was only natural that he would be involved. Without lingering, she averted her eyes and chose the chair farthest from him.

A crease formed between Colton’s brows. After such a long separation, he had assumed she would be at least somewhat stirred to see him. Instead, she acted as though he did not exist at all.

His expression grew noticeably colder.

Eventually, restraint failed him. He rose from the sofa and stopped in front of her, looking down at her from above. “Have you suddenly lost your voice? Not even a hello?” he asked, his tone glacial.

Standing that close, he left no space between them, and the faint scent of mint reached Kristine clearly. With a slight frown, she raised her head and met his eyes. Where infatuation and fixation had once lived, there was now only quiet stillness and cool composure.

That detached look irritated him deeply. He lifted his hand and caught Kristine by the chin, the motion forcing her face upward and exposing the elegant curve of her neck and shoulders. Even so, the chill in her gaze only grew stronger.

Colton’s irritation sank into something darker.

A sharp knock echoed from outside the door.

Both of them turned simultaneously and noticed a man standing at the entrance. Kristine recognized him at once. Justin Lewis — the chief legal officer of Yates Group, and the man Colton’s mother had previously sent to speak with her on more than one occasion. Each encounter had followed the same pattern: money placed on the table, and a demand that she walk away from Colton.

A trace of unease crossed Justin’s face as he gently cleared his throat. “Am I interrupting something p>

Colton held back his irritation, a tight crease between his brows. “Are we free to go now p>

After a brief glance toward Kristine, Justin answered, “Yes, Mr. Yates. All the formalities are complete. You may leave whenever you wish p>

Colton gave a short nod, yet he made no move toward the door and instead sent a casual glance in Kristine’s direction.

Unmoving in her seat, Kristine showed no reaction whatsoever and acted as though neither of them existed.

Anger swirled in Colton’s eyes. He pressed his fingers to his temples. “Kristine, do you really have nothing to say p>

Silence. She did not reply, did not lift her head, and held the same indifferent posture.
