What she never once suspected was that Kristine had never relied on Colton’s money. In truth, Kristine had played a significant role in helping him grow his wealth. When K&C Entertainment was founded, Colton provided the starting capital. Everything else fell into Kristine’s hands. Despite having no prior experience, she learned with surprising speed, and just six months later, the company was already turning a profit. Realization settled over Kristine as she lifted a brow. Colton had always followed his own rules. Once he made a decision, he announced it. Permission had never been part of his process.
A quiet satisfaction rose in her as she took in Victoria and Luna’s barely restrained fury.
“Yes, Colton and I are getting married,” Kristine said lightly. “He is the one who keeps pushing for it. At this point, it feels like he is begging, and I am honestly worn out from it p>
“What kind of nonsense are you spewing?” Victoria retorted, her nostrils flaring. “My son would never lower himself like that. You must have clung to him, cried endlessly, and forced his hand. Otherwise, why would he ever marry someone like you p>
The shift in Kristine’s expression was subtle, but it was there. After all, she had been the one to insist they make their marriage official.
“Oh?” Victoria sneered. “Did that strike a nerve? You chasing after him while pretending he cannot live without you? You must be completely delusional p>
A faint smile tugged at Kristine’s lips. “If you are convinced I am the one who begged, then tell your son not to marry me. That would solve everything p>
Should Victoria actually succeed, Kristine would gladly thank her for the rescue.
A brief silence fell as Victoria hesitated. She had already confronted Colton about this earlier, and his rejection had been immediate and firm. Despite herself, doubt crept in as she studied Kristine more closely. The color drained from her face as a troubling thought took hold — if Colton truly intended to marry her, then everything Victoria had assumed no longer applied.
“That cannot be true,” Victoria snapped, recovering her composure as she glared. “You must have worn him down until he agreed. My son is outstanding in every way. There is no reason he would ever choose you. I am warning you now. Stay away from him, or you will regret it p>
In a burst of anger, Victoria grabbed the glass from the bedside table and raised it.
