At the name, Devin relaxed slightly but could not hide his confusion. “Hold on — that doesn’t add up. If Kristine told you she doesn’t love you anymore, why do you look like someone pulled the floor out from under you? Wait…” He studied Colton. “Are you actually serious about her p>
Colton shot him a brief look.
Devin pressed on. “For real? You have genuine feelings for Kristine p>

Even as he said it, he could barely believe the words leaving his own mouth. Colton raised the bottle and drank again. “Why else would I have stayed by her side for four years p>
Devin pushed himself off the sofa and ran a hand through his hair in disbelief.
The last time Colton had insisted there was nothing between him and Elyse, Devin had not paid it much mind. He had assumed Colton simply could not accept Kristine walking away. Years in the world of relationships had given him a keen sense for these things — and he had seen Colton abandon everything for Elyse at a moment’s notice. Even the most important dinners had been cast aside. If that did not count as love, Devin did not know what did.
“Then explain why you treat Elyse the way you do,” Devin said, still unable to make sense of it.
Colton gazed down into the liquor. The room’s colored lights bounced off the surface, catching his eyes. He blinked, slow and dazed.
“Does she have something on you?” Devin guessed, searching for another explanation.
Colton pressed his hands to his temples. “That’s personal. I’d rather not discuss it p>
Devin fell silent. He tapped the side of his nose and redirected. “If Kristine really told you that, maybe it’s time to let her go p>
Colton raised his gaze, meeting Devin’s eyes with an icy, unreadable stare. “I’m never letting her go p>
Devin realized there was nothing left to add.
As dawn broke, Kristine reached out to the logistics company. She sent Victor’s details and spent a long stretch of time filling out the digital paperwork. Eventually, the confirmation came through.
“Everything’s arranged, Ms. Green. Once Mr. Todd answers the door, the courier will handle the delivery p>
“Thank you.” After ending the call, Kristine looked out from the second-floor window, scanning the entrance below. With no sign of Colton’s car, she finally felt comfortable enough to head downstairs.
Upon stepping into the dining room, however, she found him already at the table.
