Chapter 372:
“I’m going to make sure Kristine comes back and apologizes to you p>
Colton walked into Kristine’s apartment and stopped short at the sight of Danica sitting on the couch, her eyes red and swollen from crying.
He remembered suddenly that he had locked her away before he left. He hadn’t told anyone to release her. How had she gotten out?
A name surfaced in his mind, and his expression darkened with anger.

Danica froze when she saw him — then her shock gave way to pure fury. She shot to her feet, swung her fist at his chest, and screamed, “You murderer! How can you even show your face here after what you did p>
Colton caught her wrist without effort. “Where is Kristine p>
Fresh tears poured down Danica’s face. “Don’t you dare say her name p>
“I’m not going to ask again.” His temper had reached its limit. “Where is she p>
“Ms. Green is dead p>
The voice came from across the room. It was only then that Colton realized he and Danica weren’t alone. Nathan stepped out of Kristine’s bedroom, and Colton turned a glare on him so cold it could cut glass — so cold that the meaning of the words didn’t even register at first.
He lunged forward and seized Nathan by the collar. Then it hit him, and the shock moved through his entire body like a current.
“What did you just say?” Colton growled.
Nathan held his gaze without flinching. “Ms. Green is dead p>
A cold, mocking smile crossed Colton’s face. “I don’t know you, so you must work for Asher. He probably helped Danica escape too. This ‘death’ is just another one of his games, isn’t it? Go tell him his little lie didn’t work p>
“She really is gone!” Danica’s voice broke completely. “They found a body in the ocean last night. The police are certain it’s Kristine p>
The words left her spent. Her legs gave way, and she collapsed to the floor, overwhelmed by grief.
Colton watched her closely, searching her face for any trace of deception. But her pain was unmistakably real — there was no performance in it.
A sharp pain struck his chest, as though something had hit him. After a long silence, he whispered, “I don’t believe you. Kristine wouldn’t just die. She wouldn’t leave — not without my permission p>
“If you think I’m lying, come to the hospital and see for yourself,” Nathan said quietly. His own eyes had begun to fill. If Kristine hadn’t come back into his life when she did, he would still have been drowning in his own failure and grief. She had given him a new start. Now that she was gone, the weight of it was crushing.
“Fine,” Colton said, his smile turning strange and hollow. “I’ll go. But if I find out Kristine is faking her own death — she’ll answer for it.” He turned and walked out without another word.
