She found Colton instantly.
He looked leaner than before, yet his stance remained rigid and unyielding. Bathed in moonlight, his sharp features appeared colder, his gaze carrying a chilling authority.
Kristine walked toward him, her eyes hardening with every step. Once, whenever she had approached Colton, she had done so with reckless devotion, holding nothing back.
Colton didn’t want to face the bitterness in her stare. Yet after such a long separation, he couldn’t look away. Under the pale glow, Kristine looked almost unreal — flawless, the quiet allure of her expression impossible to ignore.

“Oh, my dear, don’t say that,” Susan replied anxiously. “Why did you return p>
“If I hadn’t…” Kristine glanced toward Colton’s car.
Susan followed her gaze. “Are you worried he might hurt me? He wouldn’t dare. If he meant to, it would have happened already p>
Kristine pressed her lips together. Susan had never seen Colton at his worst. She had no idea how frightening he truly was.
“But maybe this is the right choice,” Susan continued gently. “From what I saw, Mr. Yates cares about you. I think he loves you. Going back with him isn’t the worst thing.” Kristine smiled faintly. Susan was mistaken — though she couldn’t be blamed. She didn’t go online. She didn’t know there was already someone Colton cherished deeply.
“Before you came back,” Susan went on, “he asked me everything. What you eat, how you’ve been feeling, whether you were happy here. He asked carefully, about every little thing. I don’t know what happened between you two, but where there is affection, nothing is impossible p>
Kristine listened without interruption.
When Susan finished, Kristine spoke softly. “I should go now, Susan. Please look after yourself. I’ll come visit if I ever get the chance p>
“All right,” Susan replied reluctantly, her eyes following her.
Kristine exchanged a few quiet words with Frey, then walked toward Colton’s car. Bobby noticed her in the mirror and hurried out to open the door. Kristine paused briefly when she saw Colton seated in the back, then climbed in.
After tonight, they would never cross paths again.
The car moved off slowly. The cabin fell silent, and no one uttered a word. Bobby gripped the wheel, feeling the tension pressing down on him. Kristine had returned, but she wasn’t coming back to Colton — and that was not what Colton wanted.
