Chapter 388:
Devin made a face, knowing better than to try and hide things from Colton. Goodwin was indeed in Raskor pursuing a much younger woman. He gave an uncomfortable laugh and cleared his throat. “So what’s the plan? Your father won’t move, and we p>
He stopped mid-sentence.
Every muscle in his body locked up.
A car had just sped past the spot where he was standing, its window rolled all the way down — and inside it, for just a fraction of a second, he had seen a face he recognized.
Kristine’s face.
But she was supposed to be in Peudon. Why would she be in Raskor?
“Devin?” Colton’s voice came through the phone, sharp with irritation. “What’s going on? Finish what you were saying p>
“Sorry — it’s nothing,” Devin stammered. “I just… I thought I saw someone. Someone who looked exactly like… Kristine p>
The words crashed into Colton like a bolt of electricity. He sat upright, a spark igniting somewhere deep behind his exhausted eyes. When he finally spoke, his voice was barely above a whisper — raw, unsteady, as though he was terrified of what the answer might be.

“What… what did you just say p>
“I must have been seeing things,” Devin murmured. “Kristine is living her life in Peudon. Why would she ever come to Raskor? And besides, if she were here, you’d be right by her side.” By the time he finished, there was a faint note of mockery in his voice.
Colton’s eyes went dark. He felt as though he were losing his mind.
Kristine was dead. There was no way Devin had actually seen her.
Devin noticed the silence stretching on and assumed Colton was irritated. He shifted the conversation back to Colton’s father.
If Goodwin agreed, they could exhume the ashes and run a DNA test. If the results confirmed that Patsy was the one in the grave…
The thought alone made Devin’s chest ache. He hoped with everything he had that the test would come back negative.
He tried to keep his voice steady. “I called because I need your advice. You know your father better than anyone. How do I get him to agree to the test p>
“Find out what he wants and give it to him,” Colton said, his voice flat with contempt.
He hung up without another word.
Devin stared at his phone for a moment, then shook his head and tucked it away.
Goodwin was a lot like him in some ways — he had never been without women, had never truly loved any of them. The difference was that Devin was free, while Goodwin had a wife and children at home. In the early years, his wife Victoria had fought back — crying, arguing, making her anger known. But Goodwin hadn’t stopped. If anything, he had grown more brazen. Eventually, Victoria had given up on the marriage entirely and found her own way.
Colton had grown up watching his parents tear each other apart. He had never been taught what love looked like.
Devin let out a quiet sigh. Most men with money never figured out love. He himself had only understood how much he loved Patsy after it was too late.
