Colton’s brow furrowed, but his eyes never left Kristine.
The officiant turned to Kristine, waiting for her answer.
Beneath her veil, Kristine pressed her lips into a thin line, her true feelings safely concealed.
“Miss Green, do you take Mr. Colton Yates as your husband?” the officiant repeated, louder now, his voice edged with urgency.
Kristine’s mouth formed the words, but nothing escaped her lips. Saying “I do” felt impossible. Outright refusal, though, would throw everything into chaos — one wrong move and her entire plan to leave could collapse.
Then she noticed Bobby at the edge of the room, phone in hand.

With that, he strode quickly toward the doors, his tall figure disappearing in an instant.

Soon the hall was empty except for Asher, dressed in white, and Kristine, still in her wedding gown.
