Chapter 99:
Back at the hospital, Brent sat at the edge of the bed, staring at Elyse’s pale, lifeless face. The pain in his chest felt sharp enough to cut him open.
Elyse truly couldn’t hold on much longer.
There was still time to search for another match. Even so, he had already made up his mind. He wanted Kristine to die on that operating table. Only if she never came out of surgery would the hatred burning inside him finally fade.
His eyes dropped to the dark bruises ringing Elyse’s throat, and rage flared all over again. Elyse wouldn’t be in this condition if Kristine hadn’t laid a hand on her.

The ward door slowly opened a crack. A nurse leaned in through the doorway and spoke toward Brent’s back. “Ms. Green is here. Do we begin preparing for surgery p>
Brent rose from his seat at an unhurried pace, his lean frame rigid with cold determination. “Yes. Get started right away p>
“Understood.” The nurse shut the door and went directly to the operating room to prepare.
Outside the operating room, Colton stood watching through the glass as Kristine, strapped to the table, fought against her restraints. His hands curled into fists at his sides.
“Colton! I know you’re right outside! Is this how you keep your promise? It hasn’t even been a full day, and you’ve already broken every word you said! You told me to trust you, and this is what I get for believing you p>
Colton’s fists tightened.
“Mr. Yates?” Bobby and Justin called out anxiously.
“Colton, if I die on that table today, I won’t haunt you in the next life. I’ll stay as far away from you as I can. Being anywhere near you is nothing but bad luck p>
Colton’s expression shifted in an instant, as though something inside his chest was being struck repeatedly, blow after blow.
Noticing his reaction, Justin spoke carefully. “Mr. Yates, should we ask the anesthesiologist to sedate Ms. Green first p>
From a legal standpoint, Justin could not support what Colton was doing. On an emotional level, though, he understood why Colton was forcing this. Brent was right — if the transplant did not happen immediately, Elyse would not make it. Kristine would lose a kidney, but without the transplant, Elyse would lose everything, including her life.
“Don’t bother. Let her say whatever she wants,” Colton responded.
If she needed to scream to feel better, then let her. It did not bother him.
Bobby and Justin exchanged another uneasy look.
“Colton, you’re a grown man, so act like one! If you’re determined to take my kidney, then why are you too scared to even look at me p>
Inside the operating room, the anesthesiologist glanced helplessly toward the door.
After a steadying breath, Colton walked in.
The second Kristine caught sight of him, her stare turned sharp as a blade. “So you decided to show your face p>
“Kristine, please try to calm down. Elyse’s life depends on you.” Colton met her eyes and didn’t look away. “If you save her, I promise I’ll repay you. Whatever you want — I’ll give you anything, even the entire Yates Group p>
