Color rushed to Kristine’s cheeks. “That doesn’t mean I’m naive,” she insisted. Without another word, she spun around and headed out to the front yard.
Asher’s gaze followed her as she left, a quiet smile tugging at his mouth — though something darker flickered behind his eyes. He still hadn’t figured out the right moment to tell Kristine about their marriage registration. If he revealed it now, she would almost certainly demand a divorce on the spot. That wasn’t what he wanted.
Kristine put her focus into tidying Nathan’s garden, her skilled hands working quickly to neaten the neglected space. When Nathan came outside later, he kept his stern expression — but Kristine caught a fleeting look of approval in his eyes as he took in the orderly garden.

“Alright,” Kristine replied, a touch of curiosity in her voice. She wondered how she would appear on screen — she had heard cameras made people look heavier.
Since Tripp hadn’t arrived yet, the three of them settled in front of the television. Right on schedule, the program began at 8:13.
The moment Kristine’s face appeared, all three turned their attention to her. Although she sat in the background, tucked away in the last row and layered in makeup, her beauty was impossible to overlook. She looked almost as though she had been made for the camera.
Nathan felt a faint flicker of admiration — though his interest faded almost immediately. Antiques had never been his thing.
Asher, in contrast, never wavered. He watched the broadcast closely, eyes fixed on every detail.
