A slow grin spread across his face. “No rain here in Peudon. The stars are out, and the moonlight is incredible tonight. It’s a shame you’re not here p>
Kristine blinked, unsure why he would bring that up.
He softly called her name. “Kristine p>

“Do you remember what I mentioned before p>
“About what, exactly p>

Just as Kristine opened her mouth to ask for an explanation, the call dropped unexpectedly. She stared at the screen for a moment, then pressed her fingers to her temples and headed to the bathroom for a hot bath.
Her mind circled back to one urgent thought — she still had to get out of Gridron. But that would require a solid plan.
Once she finished bathing, Kristine checked her phone and found a list of missed calls. All of them were from Ryan.
She dialed his number without a second thought. He answered on the first ring.
“Kristine, do you have a moment? I tracked down the doctor and the nurse p>
Disbelief edged into her voice. “You’re serious p>

“Where are they now p>
“They’re both in Gridron p>
A thrill ran through Kristine as she gripped her towel. “Text me the address right away p>
Once the call ended, she hurried off to get dressed.
An hour later, Kristine and Ryan stood side by side in front of a run-down building, a faded motel sign swaying overhead. Ryan had insisted on coming, refusing to let her handle things alone, and Kristine understood she had no chance of managing both targets by herself — which was why she had accepted his help.

At four in the morning, the motel lobby was so quiet that the clerk at the front desk slept through their arrival. Moving swiftly, they slipped into the elevator and rode up to the second floor.
Ryan explained in a whisper that both the doctor and the nurse had been holed up here since quitting their jobs. Fearful of being discovered, they barely left the building and kept their phones offline. The only reason Ryan had managed to track them down was that their last recorded activity had been logged in this neighborhood. He had pored over hours of traffic camera footage until he finally spotted them heading into this very motel.
They stopped in front of Room 208.
“This is it,” Ryan murmured.
Kristine drew a deep breath and gave him a determined nod. Without hesitation, Ryan rapped on the door. “Room service p>
