Today was supposed to be the day Kristine left the hospital. Colton had every intention of picking her up himself. His plans changed the moment he received a call from the bridal shop about an issue with the wedding dress. By the time he finished sorting it out and stepped outside, he had spotted her riding off in Asher’s car.
Once Kristine arrived at the villa, she carried the vase into a modest room on the ground floor. Colton always complained about the harsh scent of repair supplies, and if she left the vase upstairs, he would no doubt start in again. She set the broken pieces on the table and stared at them, her mind drifting to the question of how to leave Colton without facing serious consequences.
Suddenly, movement in the hallway caught her attention.
“Ms. Green!” Claire’s voice rang out. “The bridal shop staff are here with the wedding dress! You need to come see this p>
Though Kristine hesitated, Claire’s enthusiasm swept her along, and she found herself drawn into the living room.
The moment her eyes landed on the gown, she froze.
A sweeping skirt cascaded down in endless, cloud-like layers, every inch of the fabric revealing intricate patterns that spoke to the skill behind its creation. Diamonds glittered from the neckline all the way down, sparkling like tiny stars and scattering brilliant color across the room.
This was the wedding dress she had imagined so many times before.

Before she could second-guess herself, Kristine nodded.
To her astonishment, the gown hugged her frame flawlessly — almost as if it had been crafted just for her.
“You look absolutely radiant, Ms. Green,” the staff member said, admiring her reflection. “It’s clear Mr. Yates paid close attention to every detail these past four years p>
Kristine’s smile disappeared in an instant. “Please help me out of this,” she said quietly.
Noticing the abrupt shift, the staff members carefully eased the dress from her shoulders. “Just leave it over there,” Kristine instructed, gesturing toward an unused corner of the room.
They hesitated for a moment, then wheeled the gown to where she indicated and quietly exited.
Stillness filled the room.
Kristine’s gaze settled on the gown, still glinting with its sharp, cold brilliance. Those diamonds sparkled so intensely they almost made her look away. Her mind traveled back four years, to the beginning of her relationship with Colton. It couldn’t have been clearer who he had originally had this dress made for.
Drawing in a steadying breath, she pulled out her phone and photographed the gown from every possible angle, then sent the entire collection to Elyse at once.
“This is the wedding dress Colton picked out for me. Gorgeous, don’t you think p>
She was certain that sending something so bold would get under Elyse’s skin — or at least force Colton to reconsider marrying her.
