Colton stood there for a long time before snapping back to himself. When had he ever blocked Kristine’s card? By the time he turned around, she was already gone.
Inside the main hall, Kristine had barely stepped away when Joselyn approached Vance.
“Vance, what does Kristine have that I don’t?” she said, her eyes filled with longing and bitterness. “After all these years, can’t you even look at me once p>
Vance took a step back, widening the gap between them. “Joselyn, you’re wonderful, but I don’t feel that way about you p>
Joselyn clenched her teeth. “You came to me a few days ago — I thought you’d finally reconsidered. Turns out it was all for Kristine. How laughable. She chased Colton for years and still failed. That’s her karma p>
Vance’s brows drew together. “Haven’t you crossed the line enough? Ever since Kristine showed up, you’ve done nothing but speak badly about her. Listen carefully — no matter what you say, she remains the best person in my eyes. Your insults don’t tarnish her. They only make you look worse each time. Do you have any idea how ugly you sound right now p>
Joselyn glared at him, seething. “Fine. One day, you’ll regret this.” She spun around and stormed off.
Vance exhaled once she was gone. Turning back, he froze when he spotted Kristine standing nearby, smiling at him.
Heat rushed to his face.
Despite holding the position of vice president at K&C Entertainment, he felt like a flustered rookie whenever Kristine was around.
“You heard everything?” he asked, composing himself.
“I did.” Kristine lifted her gaze to him.
Vance always seemed calm and courteous, the type who never lost his temper. She had never once heard him raise his voice — not even during workplace crises. Yet today, he had stepped far outside that image for her sake.
“I didn’t think you had it in you to insult someone,” Kristine teased, keeping her own emotions in check.

Concern flickered in Vance’s eyes, but Kristine avoided his gaze, shifting her attention back to the displays.
At that moment, the brightly lit hall went dark.
All eyes turned toward the illuminated center.
Joselyn stood there, microphone in hand. She swept her gaze across the room, quickly finding Kristine beside Vance. Her eyes turned cold — and then she smiled.
