Chapter 252

Chapter 252:

Colton’s face grew even more intense. “You honestly believe you can survive out there by yourself? Never mind the rest — can you really keep those antiques safe p>

That hit Kristine hard. She clenched her hands into tight fists, her voice icy. “What happens to me has nothing to do with you.” Without waiting for a reply, she walked away and disappeared into her building.

Colton moved to follow her, but the security guard at the gate stepped forward. “Sir, you’ll need to sign in first p>

His eyes narrowed as he looked up in time to see Kristine slip out of sight. Without another word, he shot the guard a frosty look and turned away.

Back in her apartment, Kristine collapsed onto the couch, her legs too weak to support her.

Colton’s warning echoed in her mind. It wasn’t only Monica coveting those antiques — plenty of others had their sights set on them as well. She had to admit that protecting everything on her own was impossible. Some sort of strategy was needed.

She spent hours trying to think of a solution, but nothing came to her. Even the following morning, on her way to sign the contract at the TV station, her thoughts remained scattered. Still, she forced herself to read through every detail of the paperwork before putting pen to paper.

“All set.” Victor handed over the stamped copy. “Filming starts in five days. Just be here at the station then p>

“Will do.” With that, Kristine stood and headed out.

The drive back to the Artifact Institute left her unsettled, a nagging feeling of being watched clinging to her. A quick glance in the rearview mirror revealed nothing unusual. Maybe she was letting her imagination get the better of her.

Kristine pulled into the institute’s parking lot and was about to step out when her gaze caught a luxury car quietly rolling in behind her. Whoever was inside stayed out of sight. A nervous flutter filled her chest.

Thinking back to Colton’s unexpected visit the night before, she frowned — but she knew this wasn’t him. She had made it clear there would be no second chances. His behavior often made no sense to her: he was about to marry Elyse, yet he still lingered around her life. Was this simply how some men were? Claim one woman, then keep another dangling within reach?

Before she could think any further, the luxury car’s driver’s door swung open. Kristine froze, watching in her mirror as a head slowly rose into view.

Kristine’s tension melted away as soon as she recognized Danica. She pulled the door open. “What brings you here p>

Danica’s shoulders dropped, a hint of relief on her face. “You were in the car forever. I started to worry something was wrong p>

Kristine massaged her temples. “You’re the reason I didn’t get out. Why have you been trailing me p>

A look of indignation crossed Danica’s face. “I wasn’t following you!” she shot back. “I was leaving the hotel, spotted your car, and thought I’d stop by and say hello.” Another yawn escaped her, making it obvious she hadn’t slept much.
