Chapter 479
Asher heard the loud noise and wheeled himself outside to see what was happening.
At almost the exact same moment, Colton opened his car door and stepped out.
The instant their eyes met, the atmosphere grew tense and heavy.
“It’s been a while, Colton,” Asher said, his voice cold and edged with anger.
Colton stood by his car, looking ready for a fight.
“It certainly has,” Colton replied, staring Asher down. “How are things going with you and Consuela?”
Asher’s eyes narrowed instantly. He now understood that Colton was the one who had paid Consuela to set him up.
“You know exactly what happened, and you know I never touched Consuela,” Asher said coldly.
On the night in question, even though he had been in her bed, Consuela had been too afraid to actually touch him. The suggestive photos on her phone were completely fake — staged and then altered using AI technology.
“Did you honestly think these cheap tricks would ruin my relationship with Kristine?” Asher demanded. “She knows me too well to fall for them.”
Colton clenched his fists at his sides, then let out a sneer. “If she actually knew you at all, she wouldn’t have believed those photos were real in the first place.”
Asher’s gaze sharpened. “You showed those photos to Kristine!”
Colton gave a smug smile. “Why are you so upset? Didn’t you just say she knows you too well to fall for it? It looks like the two of you aren’t as close as you claim.”
Asher took a deep breath and spoke slowly. “Kristine and I might only be friends right now. But I still have a real chance with her — unlike you, her ex-boyfriend.”
Colton was rendered speechless.
As the argument escalated, Danica nudged Nathan. “Am I really seeing this? Two powerful men acting like children over one woman?”
“Have you ever heard that saying?” Nathan replied in a flat tone.
“What saying?” Danica asked.
“Boys will be boys, no matter how old they get,” Nathan said.
Danica looked at his deadpan expression and burst out laughing.
“What are you laughing at?” Nathan asked, looking annoyed.
“Nothing. You just don’t act your age. You probably have the soul of an eighty-year-old man,” Danica joked.
Nathan didn’t know how to respond to that, and he quietly wondered if she was right.
Meanwhile, the tense standoff between Asher and Colton finally broke.
Leaning back against his car, Colton’s anger cooled slightly. “Kristine loved me for seven whole years,” he said. “You don’t get chances like that in life. She’s just upset right now. Once I swallow my pride and ask her, she’ll come right back to me.”
Asher gave a cold, dismissive smile and turned his attention to what mattered. “Where is Kristine? I’m taking her with me.”
“I am not letting you take her anywhere,” Colton replied firmly.
