Kristine replied firmly. “You knew Elyse and I already disliked each other. That is why you dragged her into it — you wanted her to be the first person I would suspect. You thought you had covered every angle, except for one p>
She continued. “If Elyse wanted to ruin me, she would not need a scheme this messy. With Colton behind her, she could have pushed the story across every platform in a single night. Why would she waste money hiring people to keep it alive for hours just to stir attention p>
Ruth’s face went pale. After a tense moment, bitterness twisted her mouth. “Fine. So what if I did? What exactly are you going to do about it p>
“The law might not be ready to deal with you yet, but —” Kristine pulled out her phone and held it up.
The moment Ruth noticed the recording screen, the last bit of color drained from her face.
Kristine’s voice stayed calm, almost chilling. “Do you want to find out what Colton will do when he learns you have been targeting Elyse online? If you do not understand how far he will go for her, ask anyone in Gridron. They will explain it for you p>
Ruth’s legs gave out, and she dropped hard to the floor.
Satisfied with the silence she left behind, Kristine slid her phone back into her pocket, gave Ruth one final look, and walked away without another word.
By the time she reached the first level, Elyse was standing there, clearly waiting.
“Well, congratulations,” Elyse said smoothly. “Looks like you have finally cleared your name p>
Her heels clicked sharply as she approached. The friendliness she had once pretended to have was gone, replaced by a thin, mocking smile.

Kristine did not bother responding.
That dismissal cracked Elyse’s composure. She stepped forward and blocked Kristine’s path. “Did Colton come looking for you the day the episode aired?” She had replayed it in her mind over and over. If he had gone to see anyone, it had to be Kristine.
Kristine’s lips curved faintly. “Why don’t you ask him yourself p>
The calm smile only irritated Elyse further. “So this is revenge, then? You are doing this to spite me p>
Kristine looked at her as though she could not believe what she was hearing.
Elyse gave a bitter laugh. “Do you honestly think these little tricks are going to change anything? Colton still chose me in the end. You had four years, Kristine — four years — and you still could not make him stay. Stop fooling yourself. Let it go already. It will spare us both the embarrassment p>
Kristine’s eyes held a trace of amusement. “That speech would be much more useful if you gave it to Colton p>
Elyse’s face hardened instantly. “What is that supposed to mean? Are you suggesting he cannot let go of you? Kristine, do you have no shame at all p>
Kristine held her stare without blinking. “Even if I had no shame at all, I would still never sink as low as someone who has blood on her hands like you p>
