Chapter 358:
“Fine.” Kristine adjusted her position slightly. “But before you go, could you loosen these ropes?” He fell silent, looking troubled. “I haven’t eaten since yesterday,” she continued. “I just need food. And think about it — I’m relying on both of you. Where would I even go p>
He stayed quiet for a few seconds, then finally reached over and untied her.
Kristine didn’t take the opportunity to leave. She simply picked up the bread from the floor and began eating as though it were the first real meal she had seen in days.
Once the kidnapper realized she truly was starving, his guard dropped. He turned and went to get his brother.
Not long after, the two of them came back together. Kristine was still chewing slowly. The bread was rough and dry, but after going a full day and night without food, it might as well have been a feast.
The older brother stepped closer, his expression tense as he watched her swallow the last bite. “What exactly do you want us to do?” he asked bluntly.
“Help me put Monica behind bars p>
Shock crossed both men’s faces simultaneously. “Have you lost your mind? We’re criminals. How do you expect people like us to get Monica thrown in jail p>
“You don’t need to do anything complicated. Just make one phone call. Tell Monica that I’m free. Once she hears that, she’ll panic and rush over with the antiques to trade for Jemma p>

“And where is this exchange supposed to take place p>
“That part doesn’t matter p>
The two brothers stared at her, exchanging uncertain glances, trying to work out what game she was playing.
Kristine noticed their hesitation and let a soft smile surface. “It’s only a phone call. There’s no danger for either of you. If you can’t manage something this simple, then why should I bother helping you get money out of Colton p>
The brothers looked at each other again, weighing their options in silence.
After a short pause, the older brother let out a breath. “Fine. I’ll make the call p>
“Wait.” Kristine spoke before he could turn away.
He frowned. “What is it now p>
“If we’re working together, it makes sense to know who we’re dealing with — don’t you think p>
He hesitated, clearly uncomfortable. Before he could answer, his brother cut in, “My name is Watson Kirby. He’s my older brother, Jonas p>
Kristine gave a brief nod and didn’t press further.
Only then did Jonas seem to relax. He turned and walked out to make the call.
Back at home, Monica paced back and forth across the living room, her nerves stretched thin as she waited to hear from the kidnappers again. Time dragged, and nothing came.
“What do you think they’re really after?” Her anxiety sharpened with every passing second.
Steven sat on the sofa, unmoving, his expression flat and distant.
Frustration bubbled up inside her. His silence only made it worse. She turned sharply toward him. “I’m talking to you. Are you ignoring me on purpose p>
Steven finally looked up.
The moment their eyes met, Monica felt a chill run through her. Her voice wavered. “Why are you staring at me like that p>
“Did this happen because of you? Did Jemma get taken because of something you did p>
