Chapter 259:
Packed with crowds for the university event, the school campus offered Jaxton an opportunity. If Amelia were seen being so close to him, her reputation would be ruined. Fueled by that notion, he held Amelia so tightly that all her attempts to free herself were futile. Jaxton pulled her into the pavilion, pressing her up against the cold edge of the stone table. Just the closeness to Jaxton made Amelia’s stomach churn.
Only a short walk separated them from the noise and people at the sports field. Thinking fast, Amelia fixed Jaxton with a harsh stare and shouted, “Wyatt’s about to be here. If you don’t want to face severe consequences, let go of me p>
The mention of Wyatt’s name made panic flicker in Jaxton’s eyes, though he tried to hide it. Shadows then crept into his expression, erasing all traces of hesitation. His actions became even more aggressive as he reached to tear Amelia’s clothes. Jaxton’s touch made Amelia feel sick. Pushed to her limit, she screamed Wyatt’s name at the top of her lungs, her voice echoing across the lake.
Down by the lakeshore, Wyatt had just walked over, holding a bottle of water. He caught Amelia’s faint cry that seemed to ride the wind. The first time, he had thought his mind was playing tricks on him. When the cry sounded again, he started running, racing for the bridge.
Meanwhile, Jaxton kept tugging at Amelia’s clothes, just about to pull it off, when something slammed into him from behind and knocked him sprawling onto the concrete. Wyatt rushed to Amelia’s side, steadying her with a strong hug. Wyatt’s familiar scent wrapped around Amelia, and relief washed over her as she found her words again.

“Wyatt p>
Amelia’s voice trembled, causing a sharp pain in Wyatt’s heart. He slipped off his jacket, wrapped it around her shoulders, and said, “Yes, it’s me. You’re safe now p>
Pain stabbed through Jaxton’s body as he lay on the ground. Even as anger burned through him, seeing Wyatt left him rattled and fearful. He clenched his teeth, fighting through the pain as he dragged himself up and tried to slip away unnoticed.
But just as he reached the edge of the bridge, a sudden blow crashed into his back, launching him straight into Joypeak Lake. Kretol University looked stunning from afar, but Joypeak Lake brimmed with scattered leaves and clouds of mosquitoes. Once Jaxton plunged beneath the surface, he even caught a whiff of decay that made him gag.
Instinctively, Jaxton swam in the opposite direction of the pavilion, but soon his expression changed as something seemed to have entangled his legs. He clawed toward the surface, only to be yanked back down. He tried to scream for help, but as soon as he parted his lips, filthy water flooded his mouth. After several futile attempts, Jaxton lost his strength.
Wyatt cradled Amelia, and she began to feel her energy return. That was when she spotted Jaxton struggling in the water. Beneath the murky surface, the lakebed tangled with weeds, making Amelia suspect Jaxton’s legs had been trapped by them. Conflict flickered in Amelia’s gaze as she watched him drift, unmoving. She wished he would simply die like this. Yet she knew that if Wyatt’s kick killed him, trouble would surely come for Wyatt. This realization made her pull out her cellphone and call the university’s security, explaining that someone had fallen into Joypeak Lake.
The campus was teeming with guards because of the anniversary festivities. Security responded almost immediately after Amelia’s call. Jaxton was quickly pulled out of the water.
“Well, look who this is? Isn’t this Jaxton Morrison p>
